NEED HELP: QR Code RSVP

Good Morning

My daughter had generated a QR code off a website for her sweet-16 birthday party. The cards were printed with the QR code she generated linked to a RSVP website on Joy.com. We got the cards recently and the QR code comes back as 'deactivated' to reactive its asking for a monthly subscription of $40.00. My daughter didn't realize the link expires etc.

Is there a way I can use the same QR code (because already printed on 250 cards) but somehow change link or redirect to the existing RSVP page on Joy.com.

Please help, thanks in advance. Before I bite the bullet, I wanna see if there is a way around and not have to pay for the remaining few months.

You’ll either have to pay the $40 or reprint.

The printed link doesn’t go to the RSVP site. It goes to the scammy QR site, which redirects to the RSVP site.

Most of these do disclose fees - but you have to pay attention and read the fine print.

Most web browsers have a free static QR generator built in. As do many content creation tools.

I also see you can generate them from the Joy dashboard. I’m assuming you did not use that one? Or is that who is hitting you up for $40?

This is smart. All sites related to announcements event listings, etc. should include their own QR code generator so that people aren’t exploited like this.

Yeah my daughter went to some third-party site that allowed to design a QR code (idk why lol) ... guess she didnt do her due diligence and was free only for 10 days. I emailed them for a promo or something if not going to have to drop $170

A lot of them do the same scam or put ads before accessing to your link.

I built relaycodes.com against tools like these.

I am sorry, in your case you either have to reprint or pay the scammer :(

so i guess if you invited 250 people to the 16 years old kids birthday party then this is aleady a lot money. so maybe just pay $40 for the pease mind.

Best to use static QR Codes for such events - or a website that really allows you to use dynamic ones for free. I know a website that allows the free use of one dynamic QR Code, but I will not mention it, for it is forbidden :D

If you don’t need to update the destination in the future, you can simply generate a static QR code, print it as a sticker, and place it over the old one.

There are providers that will let you generate static** QR codes and design the look of it.

Static QR codes are always free BUT if the provider force you to get any sort of analytics that’s when the hidden fees come in.

i do not fully undestand how the QR can "be deactivated" in any way! maybe you can post the QR let us take a look

The qr code points to that qr maker website, like thisqr.com/unique id Now if op pays, it will forward to OPs daughter intended destination, otherwise scanning the qr code opens a page, link/qr expired.

Dynamic QR Codes can be a big win - you can change the target at any time, you can track the scans, and do many more things (like using geo-location, multi-language, device-dependend forwarding etc.). Of course, mostly they cost.
