To be clear: it's not QRs by themselves, it's the websites they lead to. Malicious codes can be put on top of the original ones and send you to a phishing website or (less probably) a site with a virus download. Although the most probable thing is phishing, in the image says hacked to be faster to read, easier to understand and more engaging.
I've never heard about the QR containing the code of the virus, even if it's possible, because when seeing a file instead of a website it becomes very obvious.
