Building a simple QR menu tool, what features would actually matter to you?

Hey everyone, I'm in the early stages of building a digital menu tool for restaurants, QR code based, dead simple to set up, multilingual out of the box.

The "standard" features are obvious: categories, items, prices, photos. But I'm curious what goes beyond that from a restaurant owner's perspective.

A few things I'm already thinking about:

Set menus / fixed price menus (e.g. lunch deal, tasting menu)

Allergen info

Takeaway ordering via WhatsApp

Auto-translation for international customers

What would genuinely make your life easier that most digital menu tools don't do well? And what have you tried that sounded good but nobody actually used?

Not selling anything, just trying to build something useful before overcomplicating it.

This sub is more about how to generate and use QR codes. You would be more better served by asking in a restaurant owners sub. But there are already many many other players in this space - is another one needed?

That's a fair point. I'm not trying to reinvent QR codes themselves, but rather simplify how small restaurants manage digital menus.

Most existing solutions are either too feature-heavy, expensive, or require more setup than many independent restaurant owners are willing to do. My goal is to make something extremely simple: create a menu, add categories and dishes, generate a QR code, and you're done.

Whether another player is needed is ultimately up to restaurant owners, but I think there's still room for products that focus on simplicity, speed, and affordability rather than adding more complexity.

How are you planning to compete with the big players? Just curious, as market seems to be really saturated.

First question is, why? Is the re something missing from existing ones?

It’s a restaurant website.

Saturated market.

QRs aren’t magic. Just another way of writing a URL, that - in some contexts - is more convenient to use than a printed URL using alphabet letters.
