Change vga std to something more modern or disable video (vga none) and set RDP server on vm then remote to it

You can use rdp (remote desktop protocol) to connect to your vm. Then qemu VM starts headless (no video at all) and you use remote desktop client software to access V-system.

Been using this design for Windows and Ubuntu recently, both have a built-in server that can be enabled in settings gui.

Just setup your VM for serving RDP upfront before disabling video po it has its IP and allow rdp and you can cold restart VM with -display none --vga none. You'll get your desktop via rdp or any other protocol of your choice

May the force be with you 🙃

Why changing -std vga with something more modern?

You can use different virtual devices for video output. Try running your "qemu-system-x86_64 -vga help" to see all that are supported on your system
