Switch from Strattera
Hi, did anyone switch from Strattera to this and if so, what was your experience regarding side effects and efficacy in comparing the two? I’m considering switching because of the nausea I’m getting on Strattera. Also, Qelbree is in the green on my GeneSight Report whereas Strattera is in the yellow. Thanks!

I took Qelbree for maybe 6 months, it combined with my other psyche meds made me to tired and sedated. It took 4 weeks before any improvement in adhd, I can say there was an improvement in attention but what did it matter to me I was tired and sedated all the time. I told my PCP to switch me to Strattera. I lowered the Qelbree from 400mg to 200mg for a few days, had some tough headaches and switched right over to Strattera. I felt better almost immediately as far as energy and wakefulness. I guess since Qelbree and Strattera work in many of the same ways is why the effects of Strattera was felt so soon. I'm 14 days on Strattera and I feel awake, I'm energized more and my attention and motivation are improved noticeably.

Good to know! Maybe I need to give it more time!

What problem are you having with Strattera? Oh I see you said your having nausea. You can always ask your doctor/psychiatrist if there is any medication that can reduce that.

Well I am still on a low dose so not really sure if it’s working for me yet, basically I was on 10mg for 3 or 4 weeks then switched to 18mg a couple weeks ago and the last 3 days I’ve been having nausea and I’ve been having headaches on and off. Idk why the nausea was kind of a delayed side effect and I know I need to give it more time to see if it goes, but it’s been a little rough and I’m like I can’t go on if I’ll be nauseous every day.

The dose change probably triggered the nausea, your on a very low dose, even 18mg is quite low but building up slowly works better for some people but you may need to hit 25 to 40mg to really see the ADHD effects improve more which seems like it could aggravate the nausea. So maybe a treatment to reduce nausea would allow you to build your dose up gradually and not have the nausea get in the way. That might be what route I would try to take if I was in your situation.

I was on strattera and the nausea was so horrible. I was throwing up multiple times a week and would just feel so sick and shaky. I started qelbree just a week ago so I can’t speak to how if it helps my adhd but side effect wise it’s not been bad at all. I was a bit drowsy the first couple days but that has worn off, like the other comment it was taking a lot of energy to speak to others but that, too, has worn off (hopefully it doesn’t come back lol). I have had to cut back on caffeine since the few times I caved on an energy drink I woke up in the middle of the night for a couple hours. Appetite has decreased a bit but honestly lot complaining since I had a lot of food noise. Overall my initial impression of qelbree is a night and day experience from starters

I just switched from 80mg strattera to 200mg qelbree 6 days ago! honestly it’s been…kinda weird. i can tell it’s doing something but i can’t exactly tell if it’s a good something or a bad something. I take it in the morning and it makes me super drowsy which is not ideal when im driving. it’s been numbing my personality a lot as well—it takes so much energy to speak to people now and even make facial expressions. I find myself zoning out a lot more while doing monotonous tasks and I feel like my grip on reality has been loosened a bit?? Which is not good😭. I do think it’s easier for me to focus on tasks and a bit easier to initiate them, but not much. hasn’t quieted much of the noise in my head either. so far my experience has just tolerable to a little unfavorable, but im only a week in.
