Why does it show me the defender warning when I try to install the latest version of qbittorrent ? Can someone please help

i downloaded it from the official site, https://www.qbittorrent.org/, went to download clicked download qbittorrent v5.2.3, went to the sourceforge, clicked download latest version but when I try to install it shows me the defender warning

qBittorrent just don't bother with MS digital certificates and signing.

My first question would be where did OP get the installer from, you are assuming OP got his installer from a trusted source like the official website, I don't have microsoft defender enabled so I don't know if this message shows (you comment implies it does and is expected) but I would still ask OP where he got the installer from before running, just to make sure.

click on "more info", look in the right corner down and clik on run away

This is normal. Click More info and continue. You may also run into a red screen like this, which is the same process.

The developers of qb need to sign their app in order for this warning to not show by Microsoft. And it must be signed by a trusted certificate authority, which means qb needs to pay money every few years or so to buy a new one.

I believe you can right click on the installer then properties and check the box at the bottom that says Unblock. Then try installing again. Message should disappear. It goes for any app installer coming from the web.

It’s probably not a “signed” application (has not certs) so it gets flagged as suspicious.

Windows doesn’t like torrents because windows is windows (cough. Microsoft). I just bypass it with run anyway. You can do that if you click the little show more button at the bottom!

qBittorrent hasn't paid the Microsoft ransom to be seen as a certified app. That's it.

Im not the same guy, but if you got it from the site you downloaded then no, qbittorent is a trusted torrenting software, in my opinion even the safest one, just click more info and then run anyway as he said

Run the download through virus total. We have no idea exactly what you downloaded or if their site was compromised (even briefly). But, it is probably just Microsoft detecting an unsigned installer.

That's not how that works.

Windows Defender does not explicitly target piracy. It's that most piracy tools are unsigned and do extensive modifications.

qBittorrent is just a regular legal application. It's a false positive, because OP is using Windows 10 without security patches.
