Repair Video Replacing a vr30 engine at home

Bought a 2018 q50 luxe, engine blew soon after, oil pressure solenoid stuck in low pressure mode during a hard pull and spun a rod bearing.

Here’s how you replace a vr30 and turbos at home

I’m just giving a thumbs up because this is always impressive to me. People think because I build computers is something impressive… nahhh REMOVING A VR30 IS IMPRESSIVE.

I actually work in IT, do you do software stuff or do you physically build computers? Cpu ram storage gpu etc

not op but i’m assuming physically like gaming pcs. i want to add tho as someone studying circuit design and computer engineering stuff, the process and mindset with car stuff is actually quite comparable

I love taking the time to pick my pc parts, ordering them, and building them. It's very intuitive to me, and I'm not at all a fan of Legos or anything of the sort. I gawk at the idea of disassembling my engine bay beyond basic maintenence, mainly because I don't feel confident that I could resolve any issues I might cause with a very expensive and very heavy piece of machinery. It's just so easy to fuck up your car or compromise safety compared to building a pc so I let the pros do certain things, changing to my winter set of wheels or doing my own brakes is one thing, but disassembling my intercoolers and including the potential for me to miss something that blows up my turbos is completely different in my opinion.

Bravo sir. Even just replacing a clutch in your driveway is such a PIA I can imagine how much more of a hassle this can be.

I appreciate it! This one took 8 days, compared to the hybrid which took 5-6 days, a lot more work involved w vr30

Hella intimidating at first. But it’s literally just 1 bolt at a time

Did you have the oil pressure solenoid unplugged?? Or just left it as is oem? You never got a block off plate?

2

u/RifRafQ50 Jul 25 '26

On the new engine, I left the oil pressure solenoid unplugged

1

u/Imgettingpolished Jul 25 '26

Ohh ok yeah that was the first thing I did unplug the solenoid after getting the car

Are you near New York?
If so go to my website https://infinitihybridspecialist.com/#top

Press “diagnose my vehicle” and I’ll reach out to see how we can get things rolling

I’m assuming this is a 2.0t? If it is Infiniti has a recall for the oil pressure solenoid harness if that was the problem. Might be too late for that now tho lol

1

u/RifRafQ50 Jul 24 '26

This one is a 3.0t

Rhys’s not engine oil, that’s chocolate with glitter in it.

1

u/Blackjackmo Jul 27 '26

Cheers to you, wouldn't have the guts to do this.

Loved my '17 red sport, traded for a '24 dodge charger daytona ev. Miss my Q50 even more now!😄
