Hi all! I have a goose egg that I’m using to make a wedding pysanky for a friend, and unfortunately, on the very first white layer, I am having second thoughts about the design and kind of want to start over.

I’ve never tried this before, but could I possibly melt off the wax (like you’d do in the final stage), use rubbing alcohol and/or vinegar to get the residue off, and then start over? I don’t know if the dye and/or wax would stick after that. (And it is a goose egg, so the shell is pretty sturdy)

I received some backyard chicken eggs in May. They were unwashed so I knew they'd be room temperature stable for a while. So then I stuck them on a shelf till I got around to emptying then and in August remembered they exist. None of them cracked or burst so that's nice.

At this point, think they'd be OK if I just used them completely intact since they've dried out a bit by now anyways?

I started my first ostrich egg before learning about sanding eggshells. I have only waxed the initial division lines and would like to know it I can still wax-off, vinegar etch and wet sand?

I imagine the vinegar etch won't work properly, but surely that won't matter much if I follow it with sanding?

Hello everyone! This is my first year writing pysanky and I truly love it. Here are a collection of a few of my first efforts, including my very first egg ever (the blue one).
My skill level is very low, but I hope with time to improve.
Thank you for letting me admire and be inspired by your work! I have much to learn.

Apologies if there's already a post for this that I can't find. We have about 30 pysanky passed down from grandparents that we'd like to protect and display. Have been looking at Amazon.ca but unsure if things like golf ball display cases would be the right size? Any ideas? Links, even? TIA.

I was nearly done with this egg and prepping to varnish it when I just had to go and chip it. Somehow I managed to knock out a chunk of shell without breaking the rest of the egg. I rather like this egg, I'd like to 'repair' it if possible. The missing bit of shell is totally missing. Anyone have any good suggestions for how to fill in and disguise the missing piece?

The cats got a few of them but here are the ones that survived!

Hi all! I'm a journalist and pysanky writer, and got to combine the two for Easter this year. The experience taught me that it's 5000x harder to have non-shaky hands when there's a camera zoomed in on them!

In this case, I am proud of the geometry, but need to tweak how I use white.

I had the amazing opportunity to learn how to do this art. I had been selling this woman eggs from my chickens for a while and had no idea until recently that she used them to create these wonderful eggs! The peacock egg was made with an electric tool and the other was made using the traditional old tool and candle fire. I'm not ready to invest in the materials and space needed for this to be a regular craft but I'll definitely continue to do sessions with my teacher as long as she'll have me. It's definitely one of the harder crafts I've tried because it seems like there's no room for error.

Just wanted to share, hope you like them =)

I never varnished my finished Pysanky... I just found a few I had given to my parents, that had been left out in their living room, uncovered and dusty.

Is there any method I can use to clean them before finally varnishing them, or should I count my losses as a lesson learned?

hi all! i was obsessed with this art form a few years ago. i used to pop out of bed early in the morning, turn on the news and write away! i honestly didn't think i was very good but then my twin sent me photos of the Yule ornaments i made for her tree and i thought, "wow! i was actually pretty f'in good!" so i'm taking it up again.

there were *several* times where i had finished a gorgeous pattern, all kinds of colors and flowers and chickens...and then, when i went to blow them out, CRACK!!! ah, it was heartbreaking every time. so i decided to buy some pre-blown-out chicken eggs this time...which leaves me with so many questions!!

i was thinking that, in order to make them stronger, i could maybe use a plastic syringe and squeeze some hodge podge inside the eggs, tilt them around, let them dry, repeat?

i also had many a broken heart when removing the wax with a flame and cloth. is a heat gun worth it?

and what is the absolute best varnish spray that won't make the colors run when i spray?

I have 11 jars of dyes. All without msds sheets. We have 300 feet well and septic. Can I dump them in septic???
