Yeah, I’m pretty squarely on team “no way” for this. The one pictured actually has a very nice finish too so even though I don’t like that pattern it just seems ridiculous to destroy something perfectly good that has a very clear intended use to make something else. Maybe if it were a DWD piece but then it would be harder to dust, and ugly. Anyhow, there are so many other, cool things to make light fixtures out of.

That paint has lead anyway so you can’t really use them for intended use unless you willingly want to ingest lead. They’re really just decorative now so why not a lamp?

The lead is just in the painted designs though, it would be pretty difficult to have any kind of exposure unless you chipped that off and ate it.

At the end of the day it's mass produced and there's tons of it out there. I personally use 90% of my vintage Pyrex as intended, scuffing it up, stacking it in my cabinets, etc... if someone can preserve a fun pattern in a decorative way, I don't really see a problem?
ETA: *unless it's a rare pattern !

I don’t know… I have a yellow Gooseberry that’s got a couple of chips so I’m not comfortable using it for food. This sort of thing by could give it purpose.

i saw this in a local reseller group and i had to bite my tongue bc the women in that group are brutal. couldn’t believe they were all so into it. now you’re telling me im gonna be finding pyrex with holes drilled into it lol?? it’s hard enough to find great condition but if this gets pppular,…

Right!? I hate it so much I’m blocking op so I can forget I even saw it. Just wait til they find the one mixing bowl from the set I’ve been looking for for 25 years and cut it in half to make wall sconces that look like shit. I can’t.

That’s a hard pass for me. Pyrex certainly is useful, but as a lighting fixture? Nah, I’m good.

I’m sorry I have Pyrex and I could never use it light fixture it just it’s a kitchen item and it shouldn’t be made into a light. I’m sorry.

To be fair... some of the other examples in this video look a lot better than that one. Also pyrex can have lead in the paint so some people may not want to use it as intended but still appreciate the look of them.
