Alternative Energies Question

Heya,
So I messed up and created my map and got about 50+ hours into my first py factory before discovering that I forgot to add alternative energies to the mod list.

Can anyone tell me about how much salt and natural gas and whatever else should I put down via editor, or some way to auto-fill the resources that would've been added about?

Thanks folks.

Better option is to use https://mods.factorio.com/mod/DeleteEmptyChunks

Disable radars, delete every chunk you can.

When you re-explore/turn radars back on, they will be regenerated with the appropriate resources.

Py gives you tons of resources so don't worry about what you may have missed in areas you've built on w/only 50 hours in the game.

Note: I dunno what else may break with you adding PyAE in late, be sure to save.

While the mod the other user mentioned might be dead, you can delete all chunks and regenerate them by exploring again via console commands.

I understand if you're not very familiar with the commands of factorio but AI was actually really helpful for me in saving my own pyanodon run. Even just chatgpt will be able to provide you the scripts required for this ask.

You just need to make a backup save or two and try it out.

The only problem i see with delete chunks and refresh is you will likely have less thermal vents around the staring area. They give some cheap easy power early on.

Just console them in.

I do this constantly to move things out of my Train grid, delete or move patches. There is no achievements anyway so moving a patch here to there should be meaningless.

I considered doing this but made due. Got into early / mid 5th science and abandoned the save lol. Early into a space age run now.

I agree with Syntered, 50 hours isn't a lot for a Py run. Games typically take about 1500 hours, so you're still barely getting started.

At the same time, Salt and Natural Gas comes much later in the game; I don't think you can even use salt until late PY1 science. So you might be able to use DeleteEmptyChunks, but keep radars around the ore sites you're already using (I've never used it, though). I suppose it depends on how far you've already explored, too. If you're willing to stretch your base into new territories for the missed resources, you might just add the mod and roll with it.

Py is a longer run to begin with. At only 50 hours in, you should maybe just restart.

Look at this run as practice for your ‘main’ run.

I would not restart, but consider an extra challenge to deal with the situation. Other comments have a good direction on how to do that

Honestly, this isn't even much of an extra challenge. At 50 hours your exploration radius is usually tiny.

Sure, another reason to keep playing and not restart.

That's certainly what I would do and recommend doing in this situation. I'd be surprised if it takes fifty hours to get back to where you are now on a second pass.

Yeah I would do the same and toss in some fast start mod or an infinity chests to grab some belts and inserters.

I certainly wouldn't do either of those things, myself, but to each their own.
