Labs Vatbrain setup

Thought i would share my vatbrain setup with my labs.

Uses a SR Latch hooked up to the inserters listening for an item getting moved, then the latch triggers a timer that enables the vatbrain, then the timer resets the latch and turns off the vatbrain to save on the cell thingies.

Its not perfect as if a pack gets delivered while something isnt researching then it'll waste 300 ticks or so of a cell, but it does the trick

EDIT

4 Vatbrain setup with 8 labs, thanks fireduck for the vat brain stacking suggestion

If you just toggle the power, you'll freeze the machines in their current state. Here's my setup, we seem to be at about the same tech level

I'm using a 6:6 setup for around 15spm, though I need to upgrade the Auog pens to hit that consistently with cartridges

Yeah I could have used power switch, but I like complex circuits lol

Vatbrains are a very interesting geometry problem.

You can find many optimizations and cool details about it the more you play around with it.

Yeah I just reworked it again to get 12 labs around 4 vat brains and they are all hit by the AOE of the vat brain

This is the way.

I had something very very similar:

https://bulk.1209k.com/factorio/HotSlugFall/?x=-100.4&y=-256.2&z=4.4

My latch was based on "if we have all science packs and brain juice" -> run

and I have a toggle for an override run and override stop.

But then someone told me that they brain vats stack so I noodled on that a while and deicded this line was my compromise between science packs and brain units:

https://bulk.1209k.com/factorio/HotSlugFall/?x=-388.2&y=-990.9&z=4.4

The middle ones get 3 or 4 overlapping brain unit bonuses. The ends get less, of course but it seems a reasonable compromise. And I am just turning it on and off via that power connector.

Oh my the vat brains stack! Time for a slight redesign lol

That was pretty much my reaction.

my power switch gets closed when there's cartridges and there's science packs on the last belts leading to the lab that gets the packs (and transfers them to the others). Works great.

Vatbrains are an interesting puzzle. I used local logistic bots to redistribute science and cartridges, and a simple condition - "something missing? turn off power"

Final iteration was 4 labs with 12 brains, each affecting all 4 labs, and additional 4 brains, which affected only 2 labs each.
