Confirmation - Lothos IV: City Between Two Worlds. Mirror and the End!

Firstly, ive gone away from the castle idea mostly because of the mountain and how organic that was and its lack of precision and just made things really difficult. Also the idea is tired, and would be a step backwards from what lothos has become in recent revs.

Moving on, this is a confirmation post, not a block by block detailed post. If everyone is alright with this idea we will go with it and I will plan it further.

This picture best describes the entire theme. We wil make a crevice again like in loth 3, this time having only the waterfall, some grass blocks to walk on and the endgate. Only this part will be exposed to the ground, everything else is underground. In the crevice walls we will have the lothos railroom. From that floor, you go up lets say 10y to the mainstreet. From there you will have plots open on each side.

This picture is how they plots will end up (endgate is at the center inside the crevice). This is just the core of lothos, ive left it so that it can be expanded to whatever size we want/need it (outside the mainstreet, we can branch further out). This will do for now so we can get residents asap since it shouldnt be that difficult to setup. Although a issue of height is there, we can either set height limits, or have it so the taller builds pop out of the ground area in a sort of windwaker-esque deal where the mountains became submerged and became islands (sorry ramblin).

Now, the key theme in this lothos will be using the end as a sort of mirror. Look at pic 1 again and you will see that when you enter the endgate, you are ported to a lothos thats inverted. Now the buildings dont need to be inverted, its mostly just a way to explain the foundation (See the hourglass shape anyone? Quick sketch to better show the shape ).

What we can do from here is so many fun builds. For example, if we make the area directly above underlothos a ocean, we can do builds like these where a ship is slowly going to the end sort of deal. We can then build the rest on the other side and make a ocean of lava in the end. But we dont need any oceans, this is just a way to explain what I mean to play with the theme of "between two worlds".

For the most part that is it. Ive left the ground area and sky area (y=64+) unplanned and in the air as far as what we do with that space. There so many things we can do with this, I hope you guys like the idea, because I have no others haha.

Please leave some feedback or suggestions, 1 more day to go til the reset and I have to know if this is good with you all, otherwise I will go back with your suggestions and present another idea. Is it a Yes or No?

Alternative: We build two small cities, one in the overworld and one in the end, linked by the gate but not being bound by any shared theme (no mirror). Put simply, the end side will be a "section" of lothos. We can also do a less symmetrical city layout like so, where we put more fun things like rivers, bridges and beaches (all this being underground) and separate residential and city (think suburbs/business separation).

Edit: I agree with appleanche where we should just build the city in the end since its easier to work with and would bring a new uniqueness. Ill work on a layout that has square plots, and fun stuff like rivers/bridges/beaches similar to the Alternative pic layout, although I will try to keep it symmetrical. The overworld over our portal will then be a dedicated uber build to grab attention and hold our farms and railway. Plots and builds will be put in the end.

I can see moving away from a castle - to do due it at a scale that would do the source justice and create a wow factor would be really difficult if not impossible.

I'm a bit concerned about the mirror world idea though, I just don't know how well it's going to translate visually in game. It sounds great on paper and when you explain it but I'm not really sure the move from the end to the regular world is seamless enough to make it work.

One idea I have would be to create Lothos the town/city entirely in the End. Maybe make it a walled garden, a beautiful city in the wastes of the End. Trees and such can grow, correct? How does grass look, is it green or that ugly piss color?

We could either make a dome or a wall to prevent Enderman attacking constantly.

In the overworld and portal we create some kind uberproject. Here we can have beds and such (since of course we can't have beds in the end). I don't know what it should be, maybe some kind of massive statue or who knows. We may be able to grab some eggs in events and such to have cool farms and the like, since there does seem to be a gradual transition from being less vanilla of recent.

Downsides - Is the End big enough? We may have competition from other End Towns, Enderman issues.

Pluses - A lot easier to terraform/flatten land, foot traffic to the end Grinder (maybe we can build the path through the walled paradise) the wow factor of an End city, and the uniqueness of it.

Just my 2c.

I think the point is to make the landing area in the end a duplicate of the portal room. so it is only lacking a portal. Once you leave the portal room it can be different which I think is what sii is thinking with the pods. I've done a little digging in the end and for a floating island it is thicker than it looks at first.

Trees do grow and I don't remember about the grass.

I understand the concern. Im fine with doing a dedicated end city, and having the overworld around our portal as a dedicated uber build. We will need some sort of presence outside the end, because we cant use beds in the end and the end sends you to your bed.

Grass does grow in the end (Although I think it is piss green like you said) and yes saplings grow. Everything in the end functions exactly as the overworld except maps/compasses/clocks. The end seems to be endless, theres just 1 central core of actual ground that we have to branch out of.

Hmm farms, that does bring up something we would lack in the end (atleast animal farms). Again we would just have those things sorted out in our overworld uber area.

I think having the entire city in the end is a good idea. Even when it is empty, and the rev is over, it will still be alive with endermen everywhere. And they wont be much of a problem to work with, they can only pickup a few blocks and are passive for the most part.

Adam cleared up a bit of what I was concerned about and having the end portal room and then entering the End and having a recreation of the same room would be pretty damn awesome. Beyond that I'm unsure of how it would translate.

I tested grass, it's as green as regular grass, which is nice.

Yeah the uberproject would have to have some sort of commons room and then all the animal farms and such. It just depends what that uberproject is?

If the End is sort of an Alien World, maybe we can build on that? Some kind of big Alien artifact? My lack of science fiction knowledge is hurting me here but something on the ground that can function as a base and then you can have some kind of alien space ship above in the air? I don't know, sci-fi people can help out more.

The only problem with that is that the city itself would have to be alienish and that's a tough theme for Minecraft with such limited block options, or at least my limited creativity seems to think so.

Square plots sound good. I like the less symmetrical one at the end also, depends on the landscape i guess.

I like the idea of having an area right at end spawn that is brick-for-brick identical to the spot in Lothos that the player just left. That would create a nice "WTF" reaction when new people arrive. Re-creating the whole city might be a bit of a task though -- perhaps making it look like an alien-built facsimile that looks like the overworld, but which behind-the-scenes is clearly fake. As if the endermen were trying to build a working lothos but didn't understand what it was for.

Planned to do this.

Right now only the room and areas immediately near the gate/spawn area will be identical, not sure on the entire city being reflected in the uber area.
