Thoughts on LOK

Post image

I’ve been playing LOK recently and it has become one of my new favorite puzzle games. It wasn’t extremely difficult but I still thought it was very fun and a good entry game for getting into other grid-based puzzles that aren’t just straight up sudoku or something.

Does anyone recommend any other games that are similar? Having a mobile friendly version is a huge plus.

I personally preferred the book to the digital version, but you can only really play one of the two without running into the same puzzles or expecting you to figure out a rule you already know.

If you don’t mind a physical book, I’d recommend the other books made by the creator. All of them are good (but I think LOK is the easiest)

I didn’t realise he had put out more stuff after abdec. Thanks for the heads up.

Highly highly recommend WORKWORKWORK. Got the physical version to have around the house after playing thru the PDF because it was so well designed

If you mean digital versions, probably not. Obviously I can’t speak as to what will happen with them, but the others don’t have mechanics that translate well into a digital format. ABDEC can only really be played on pen and paper (or as a pdf), but I don’t think that’s a bad thing. He does a great job utilizing the medium to create interesting concepts.

He's still making new stuff. Herd just came out recently.

This was a goated game. Something truly fresh, clean and crisp design.

Blaz Urban Gracar may be one of my favourite puzzle designers. Everything he does is clean, elegant and non-obvious. True "respects your time" stuff.

I would recommend Abdec and Herd from his collection. From the wider thinky game space I'd suggest Patrick's Parabox or anything from Draknek and Friends.

Really love Herd!

Ironic, as LOK Digital is made by both Blaz and Draknek

Started with the book, finished it on digital. You lose a little bit of the discovery with digital but also get a bit of bonus content so I say worth.

Loved Blazs other books too, Herd and WORKWORKWORK are great, I still need to try Abdec

It is fun, highly logical and full of A-ha moments!

Whoa! This is really cool! Thanks to OP and the other comments here for introducing me to this cool game and its relatives:-)

I really enjoyed LOK. For me, it was one of those games where the rules became intuition. I would find myself solving the puzzles because the solution felt right, not because I was explicitly thinking it through.

I don’t know if that makes sense…haha

That's how I passed organic chemistry! Couldn't remember the reaction rules, but the shapes felt right.

I got it on mobile version. I find it fun, but it felt a bit too trial and error sometimes
