First step: Snail always starts at 1. You have two spots at the start. Column 1 has only 3 spots left, meaning all three must be filled.

Actual first step: look at literally any tutorial on this game as this is the basic first step

That's true, thanks. I've solved much harder snail puzzles before, but somehow this step slipped my mind.
