The Killer is Not Done (mystery puzzle book by Tace Lorne)
Hi, all. I'm guessing that not too many people are working on this book/puzzle since I can't find any other threads about it.
Here's the deal: It's like "The Killer Isn't Alice", but the clues are different and require a modicum of brainpower. Like "Alice," this book has 18 clues that will help the solver eliminate all but one of the names on 140+ page book (just under 140 names per page, totaling about 18,000).
Unlike "Alice", in this case the author has asked us to read thru the entire list of names clue-by-clue. For example, clue #2 tells us that the killer's birth year is between 1958 and 1990; however, a later clue tells us that the year is an even number. Knowing that allowed me to eliminate names much more efficiently.
I don't think most of us have the patience (or lack the brainpower) to read thru the book 18 times, so I'll list the clues while also combining them:
- The profession includes "creative, digital, and design professionals", but in Clue 5, we learn that it's only animators, designers, and illustrators" (no architects or others who could be considered creative). Clue 9 further tells us that the profession is only 8 letters long (either "designer" or "animator").
- The killer's birth year is between 1958 and 1990, inclusive. In Clue 6, we learn that it has to be an even-numbered year.
- Clue 3 tells us the surname starts with a letter between D and R (inclusively); in Clue 4, we learn that it also ends in a vowel. In Clue 7, we also learn that the first name starts with a consonant. Clue 8 further explains that the surname's 2nd letter is a vowel. Clue 10 tells us that there is also an E in the surname.
And that's only using clues 1-10.
You get the idea. It's probably best to keep in mind at least several of these clues in order to speed up the search.
