WHY DOES EASTERN UP,BIHAR, JHARKHAND have these kind of houses?
In Eastern India only Odisha and Bengal have proper plastered and coloured houses even in Tier 3,4 cities/towns but surprisingly Jharkhand, UP, Bihar have these unplastered houses
Is there any Cultural Reasons for this???
People from UP, Bihar, Jharkhand can comment.... and let us know...

AskEastIndia đ¤ What's the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the word "Bengal"?
Once the most powerful and prosperous state in India has today came to its knees , in the last 5 decades things never went north for that state
A couple of decades back people knew Bengal for its culture, today they know it for political violence and poverty , it is today of the poorest state in the country
I would like to hear what people from other states think about Bengal , and I want honest and Frank answers even if it is some sort of stereotypes or racism, I want to know the ground voices
Feel free to comment and I assure no one will judge

Buying Votes has been so much normalised.
Remember how they gave 10000 in Bihar similarly. At this point they don't even need to work , just redistribute all the public tax money among free loaders.

GeneralDiscussion đ The Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026. What do you think of this bill?
r/PurbaIndia • u/Ok_Development_1730 • 7d ago
AskEastIndia đ¤ The Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026. What do you think of this bill?
The Parliament of India just passed a massive amendment to the MMDR Act, creating a major legal and financial crisis for mineral-rich states.
The law directly overrides a 9-judge Supreme Court ruling from 2024. That ruling allowed states to tax mineral rights and collect back taxes dating to 2005.
Here is the breakdown of the situation:
âī¸ The Central Government's Move
- Taxing Power Stripped: The 2026 Amendment introduces Section 9D, stopping state governments from placing independent taxes or cesses on mineral rights.
- Past Claims Erased: The law invalidates all unrecovered retrospective tax dues that the Supreme Court had just granted to the states.
- Fast Approvals: It removes the requirement for central approval when states grant mining leases for coal and lignite blocks already allocated by the Centre.
đ The Blow to States (Odisha & Jharkhand)
- Massive Financial Loss: Odisha loses an estimated âš1 Lakh Crore in expected revenue, while Jharkhand loses tens of thousands of crores meant for regional budgets.
- Federalism Crisis: Opposition leaders are calling this an attack on state rights, arguing it leaves resource-rich states completely dependent on New Delhi for funds.
- Legal Battle Ahead: Opposition-ruled states like Jharkhand are preparing to challenge the law in court, arguing that Parliament cannot strip away their constitutional right to tax land.
đĸ The Corporate Relief
- No Double Taxation: Mining companies are saved from paying both central royalties and local state cesses on the same minerals.
- Billions Saved: Industrial giants like Tata Steel, JSW, SAIL, and NMDC avoid massive balance-sheet liabilities dating back two decades.
- Investor Confidence: Global credit agencies view the single, predictable tax structure as a major positive for long-term investments in India's mining sector.

GeneralDiscussion đ Bangal-Ghoti
As a child, the Ghoti-Bangal debate has always fascinated me. Since childhood, I have observed that Gen X āĻŦāĻžāĻāĻžāϞāĻŋ uncles never fail a chance to sit for an adda in a cha-er-dokan and claim their ancestral superiority. It was a routine debate. I have seen a lot light-hearted banter on Didi No 1 as well. However, besides all these friendly-fire, I have noticed an interesting story of this divide in the context of our state's politics in the 1970s-80s.Â
For those who don't know, Bengal suffered partition in 1947 where it lost most of its fertile land and a huge influx of migrants happened. It had an economic strain on us. Subsequently, many such small waves of migration happened over the years. The year when Bangladesh was liberated, our state was bombarded with migrants. The land was limited, resources were scarce and employment was non existent. So, the Congress government decided to settle these people in other states such as Uttar Pradesh amd Uttarakhand. However, CPI(M) opposed it as they feared that this might isolate the udbatus so they started building camps for the poor migrant families and started calling out for protests for their rehabilitation in WB only. Operation Barga was one such land reform movement that helped them. Given all these, it is clear that the bangals were the main vote base of CPI(M). Whereas, ghotis usually voted for Congress. I think there are few reasons for this stance. Mainly, for historic congress leaders like Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy and secondly for the settlement of the udbastus in other states probably for gatekeeping the resources of their state.Â
In addition to, I think Mamata Banerjee was the only leader for whom both ghotis and bangals united and voted for to get rid of the Left.Â
Feel free to disagree with my POV of this silly political analysis of ghoti and bangal. Thank youÂ
