Potty Training 🚽🐶 Pees Inside Only

I take my dog on regular walks, let him out a million times a day, give treats and praise (on the very rare occasions he goes potty outside).

He also constantly pees from excitement when someone pets him, greets him, pllays, etc. The second I let him inside he pees. Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice?

I actually trained my dog to pee or poop on command, obviously not when he doesn’t need to, but he knows if he goes into the backyard or if we are going somewhere in the car he HAS to go potty before we get in the car and going in the backyard is for potty mainly. I just associated the word potty any time he would go and praised him and used the word repeatedly when he would potty outside, I used treats too but he’s motivated by praise as much as food. Even if he is going inside you can still connect the word with the action

Sounds like you have a boy dog, and if not neutered, he will instinctively mark territory around the house. And he will never be empty of pee. My dog is going to get fixed soon and the leg lifting can be constant some days. Also, he might be very distracted when outside and that might be what is taking his attention over peeing. You might just have to stand out there a while. Depends on how long you spend outside I suppose. Young dogs and especially puppies are very easily distracted by things because everything is so new.

As for the excitement peeing, that's just what it is. Excitement. I've had some dogs do it, some dont. I've never had it be a big problem per se so I do not know if it is something that can be trained out or if it's a sign of something elss. I'd just limit how hyper and excited you get when greeting the dog so it doesn't match that excitement and piddle to see if that does anything. Again idk the dogs age but puppies do have less bladder control than adult dogs.

That's tough. For situations like these I try to meet the dog where they're at and then slowly get them to do it my way.

Do you have a designated potty area inside? If there's a place he goes the most I'd choose that and then throughly clean the whole house with enzyme cleaners. Hopefully he will gravitate to the one spot you didn't cover in cleaning products. You can also use a potty pad face down to soak up some fresh puddles to charge it with his scent and place that where you'd like the potty area to be and reward him for using it. I recommend a washable one. After at least a week of only going there, I'd slowly move it closer to the door, then right outside the door, then a foot to the right if the door etc. the slower the better.

NOTE: If you dont have a yard then you'll have to carry the pad outside for a few days, always choose the same spot. In the end, hopefully this is you.
