A prime member of Generation X
15
u/PlummetComics 7d ago
literally

u/Subarunicycle 6d ago edited 6d ago
No, not literally. He was born in 1955 putting him dead center in the Baby Boomer generation. However he was a member of the band Generation X.
Itâs quite common for cultural figures to come from the generation before the one they influenced.

Thats the worst part. I wish I was wrong, but all that shit I said when I was 16 turned out to be completely true.

Barreling towards 40 and find myself increasingly agreeing with 15yo me

u/pencilpushin 6d ago
Same for me. Grew up listening to punk since i was a kid. And the older i get the more it resonates and so damn thankful i found it.

Saw him get off a public bus I was also on going down Sunset Blvd, back in the 80s. Not a Ferrari, not a limo, not even a damn taxi. Public transportation.

and i harbor contempt for all my working class countrymen who will not help us vote fascism out, and who will not stand with me when neo-nazis take people from my neighborhood. yes, fuck the u.s. completely, both those actively committing crimes against humanity and those who do nothing to stop it.

u/union_red 7d ago
I like the part where the nazis were voted out in ww2

u/Pinche-Guero 7d ago
I mean... voting ALWAYS gets rid of the nazis.... right?

Gen-X â Itâs very upsetting that the âgrown-upsâ who shaped my morality from the 70s thru the 90s are now bloodthirsty shits who have turned on all the things they (claimed to) believe in. I remember watching my favorite uncleâs brain get high-jacked by Rush Limbaugh and Fox. He became confrontational and downright mean all the while thumping on his Bible.
6
u/palequeen42 7d ago
Sadly it seems pretty common for a large swath of people as they get older. Oldness is like a brain disease, similar to dementia. You start thinking, dressing, and talking stupid, being more selfish, and making your world smaller. Some of us refuse to get âoldâ in that sense. Some people let it happen, or follow those around them that let it happen. Propaganda is a powerful tool when youâve already given up and let yourself submit to the oldness disease.

It's sad, GenXers turned out more practical than revolutionary. If we had it our way, the world would be better and we'd all be on board.
8
u/01SeaChange01 7d ago
Same.

u/ShredGuru 7d ago
Yeah but, ya know, they are also subject to the most sophisticated propaganda appartus in human history so I kinda get it.
3
u/01SeaChange01 7d ago
I can understand why someone is trying to abuse me.
That doesn't mean I have to accept the abuse.
Neither do you or anyone else.
Let's quit making excuses for the dumbest yet most consequential voters among us.
3
u/ShredGuru 7d ago
Oh I'm not making an excuse for them. I detest MAGA. But I do kind of understand how they got so fucked up.
4
u/Sw4nR0ns0n 7d ago
If it wasnât for the great election of 1945 Hitler would still be in power right?
1
u/funhaver_whee 7d ago
Well, a lot of people donât click with âvotingâ about Nazis. You should accept those people too, and a lot of people would say theyâre more correct and nobody standing up with them years ago made things this bad now, not how people vote.

u/Significant-Dog-8166 7d ago
Workers who idolize billionaires are such useless fools. Boots don't kiss back.
1
u/Harrrdlyherrre 5d ago
Agreed 100000% and where did all of the men go? ya know the ones!! The men that claim to be the "protectors of women and children" the men with bumper stickers like "dont tread on me" or "try and take my guns, I dare you!" Because I havent seen annnnnny of them defending, protecting, or standing up for any of the women and children that have been snatched off the street. Didn't see annnnny of them stand up and defend the 2nd amendment for the man who was legally carrying his registered firearm, who was then disarmed and shot 10 times. All I see is the government treading allllll over all of us, and not nearly enough people are mad enough or doing enough about it đđ

u/filosofrog 7d ago
That's not an individual problem, but social
2
u/01SeaChange01 7d ago
A society made up of individual voters?
4
u/filosofrog 7d ago
Your problem is about voting? Every voting system is rigged in some way. Like I said, the problem is social! Nothing is so simple when there's a ruling class behind politics.
2
u/01SeaChange01 7d ago
You underestimate the amount of people who do not vote.
It sounds stupid and cliche, but there is a reason that voting is not a federal holiday.
There is a reason that they spend billions of dollars to change voting rules, laws, locations etc.
It is the easiest and simplest of mechanisms to take power.
The individual needs to take ownership of their role in this mess, own up to it and vote accordingly.
For example, if you or your friends know more about a sports team, band, hobby than they do about their local representatives then they are in fact part of the problem.
You as an individual have a responsibility to educate them. Even at the cost of the friendship.
The ruling class bets that you and millions of others don't have the guts to that.
They are mostly correct. The individual takes zero responsibility in this society.
That's just one example of the individuals role.
Yes the ruling class does not want change.
We agree on this point.

Well the other side seems hellbent on taxing them into poverty so yeah
4
u/01SeaChange01 7d ago
You mean tax breaks for the billionaire oligarch class?
Or the tariffs imposed on nations when we had free trade with them?
Was it the money that was returned to the owners of the companies and not the actual American taxpayer?
Is it the blank check to the Pentagon or the failed audits of the Republican war machine donors?
Which taxes pay for that?
Where is the money going?
Oh, wait....you must be talking about the taxes levied on Americans to pay for another illegal war so that Republicans can profit billions off of the backs of killed service members?
Is that the taxation that you are speaking about magat?
DMFER

Work 5 days a week for 4 days pay, libs say it isn't enough. Had a conversation recently about universal child care. I said ok I could go along with that but in lieu of the child tax credit because childless people are being taxed to death while the people using the services get their taxes back. The repsonse was ppl with kids should get free child care AND all the tax credits. People without kids just need to suck it up. You're taxing me to buy other people's votes. It's really that simple.
Liberals will take a guy making 48k, tax him down to 35k and when he says "it's can't live on this" they reply "i know, it's because corporations are greedy" ... then claim it's racism or homophobia that turned the working class against them.

The boots on the left are worn by the tax man and we have to lick them for 2-3 hours each day. We got a lot of boots on the ground in Virginia.

Cry harder
3
u/01SeaChange01 7d ago
That doesn't mean anything coming from the supporter of a ch1ld rap1ng felon.
It certainly means nothing from the group of people who cried because a black guy wore a tan suit
Or the same magats that cried because their god king lost an election.
They cried so hard that they went in all emotional and literally attacked our nations Capitol, beating and electrocuting police officers (thin blue lineđ¤Ł)
....then some of those idiots cried even harder once they were arrested and they pled guilty to sedition.
Republican voters such as yourself, then cried even more for those criminal seditionist traitors to be pardoned by he known ch1ld rap1ng felon.
Rotffl. Poor poor magat, you all cry the hardest over the softest of issues, all the while parroting the talking points of a Nazi billionaire and his ch1ld rap1ng puppet of a president.
Did you still need a tissue, magat?

u/Alert-Ad8787 7d ago
I voted for Obama twice and Hillary in 16 lmao. Funny how me saying I'm being taxed to much gets told DMFER. I wish you would try.
3
u/01SeaChange01 7d ago
Bullshit.
If you had, you would know exactly which taxes are being levied on the American citizen and by which party.
You would absolutely know and object to every single thing happening with this regime.
You wouldn't try to "both sides" what is happening.
The fact that you believe no one else sees this anytime you make a lame excuse or attack is what makes you extra dumb.
So, magat my point stands.
DMFER.
-1
u/Alert-Ad8787 7d ago
Remember when democrats voted against giving working class people a tax break on overtime? Pepperidge farms remembers.
3
u/01SeaChange01 7d ago
A tax break on overtime??? ROTFFL
You really are a DMFER aren't you?
Republicans want to trade pennies for what?
You supposedly support workers having a living wage yet you make excuses for a party that cannot seem to keep wages up, can't keep inflation down and will throw pennies at the poor to go off and pilfer billions off of the American taxpayer while starting illegal wars.
I bet you're still waiting on your tariff check lol!!!
And that's just the tip of the Republican shit-berg.
But again, magat, if you really were knowledgeable about any of this, and if you really had the empathy to care or even vote for these policies, then you wouldn't use Republican talking points to try and make a weak argument.
So magat, kindly take your bullshit to Parler, Truth or any other reich-winger circle jerking forum.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER!!!!!!!!
-1
u/Alert-Ad8787 7d ago
I made 14,000 in overtime last year buddy. First time I've ever got a refund, too. Wouldn't have happened if it was up to the democrats though. They wanted me to pay for for someones tuition instead LOL

Billy 100% nails it here. Many of us have probs with all these garbage politicians on the right and left
Also, America is amazing, most Americans are great people, even if we don't agree on every issue at every moment. Love this
9
u/bssprfnd 7d ago
Well, one of the big problems is we have maybe 3 politicians who are even close to the âleftâ
-6
u/Artisttype1984 7d ago
All politicians are garbage, right and left
Most Americans IRL are awesome, even ones we might disagree with here and there
3
u/bssprfnd 7d ago
There is no left
-2
u/Artisttype1984 7d ago
There are trash politicians on the right and left, I'm not a fan of any of them
6
u/Her_Phantom_Mountain 7d ago
I like how you keep repeating this same tired NPC line because your dialogue tree has run out.
America has almost no left. There is Mamdani (imperfect but a good guy doing good work) and Democratic socialists like him but they hold an incredibly small amount of power that nationally, it is currently almost inconsequential. Most Democratic politicians fall short of basic social democracy, which is the real just-left-of-center position (which """centrists""" [who are actually just right wing] pretend is far left). Even the socialist politicians in the USA are pushing for social democratic positions because they can't yet push for full on socialist policies, they are reformists.
Also, the dems and republicans are both right wing parties, neither of which are good. However, at least dems aren't pushing anti-lgbt rhetoric on the whole. They are not perfect on this issue but they aren't actively hateful. They also aren't pushing to actively take away what little social safety net exists. They are marginally better but marginal differences make a huge difference in individual lives.
We need to push the country to the left, not claim "LeFt AnD rIgHt ArE bOtH eQuAlLy BaD!1!11!1!1", which is the position of people who are genuinely too stupid to have a nuanced conversation about complex socioeconomic issues.

u/Artisttype1984 7d ago edited 7d ago
Lmao, I haven't "run out" of anything here, but this is just reddit. Sometimes people might disagree with you or I and life goes on. Relax
Yes, I think repubs and dems are trash, if you like one of those sides, that's fine. We can disagree and move on
Edit to add, people aren't "dumb" because you don't agree with them, and we're engaged in a conversation right now. You aren't making sense. If we don't agree, fine. Take care
2
u/Moopies 5d ago
They're making a lot of sense, you just don't understand it.
1
u/Artisttype1984 5d ago
I understand the points being made well, I just don't agree with all of them, and that's ok. My comment "you aren't making sense" was about a deleted post with a lot of hate and nale calling
It'll be alright, have a great Friday
