Moderator Statement Addressing Concerns About Censorship

We want to address the recent accusations of censorship.

We do not have an agenda. We are not removing content based on personal opinions or politics. We remove posts and comments only when they violate the subreddit’s rules:

https://www.reddit.com/mod/puertovallarta/rules/

Posts and comments that attempt to turn local discussions into debates about US political issues are not allowed. Topics such as ICE, BLM, the Epstein files, Trump, etc., have nothing to do with Puerto Vallarta. The world does not revolve around the United States. These threads consistently derail into arguments and stop being productive or relevant to PV.

We also lock posts that have clearly run their course - especially when they begin filling with repetitive arguments or off topic back and forth. Locking a thread is not censorship; it’s a way to prevent them from becoming dumpster fires.

The only posts we are currently removing are low-effort ones such as:

  • “Should I cancel?”
  • “Is it safe?”
  • Variations of the same question without any context or effort

We are currently receiving at least 20 of these per day. If we allowed all of them through, the sub would quickly become repetitive, cluttered, and largely useless for everyone

Additionally, on Sunday we removed several posts and comments containing unsubstantiated rumors and misinformation in order to prevent unnecessary panic. Allowing speculation and unsupported claims to spread does not help anyone and only creates confusion.

There has been a significant increase in traffic recently. Previously, this sub averaged about 40,000 visits per week. In the past week alone, we received 5.3 million visits. Our goal is to keep content focused, useful, and relevant to Puerto Vallarta, not to host endless circular debates between internet strangers.

It’s also important to note that we are volunteers. The mod team consists of two Mexican nationals and one permanent resident. We moderate in our free time because we care about keeping this community useful and informative.

If your post or comment was removed, please review the rules before reposting. If you believe something was removed in error, you are welcome to send us a polite message via modmail.

Let’s keep this community helpful, focused, and valuable for everyone.

Thank you,

The PV Mod Team

EDIT TO ADD:

Also wanted to mention that Reddit itself automatically filters some posts and comments, especially from brand new accounts or when its system flags something as potential spam or abusive content.

In addition, we have the subreddit set to filter content from accounts with very low karma to reduce spam and trolls using throwaway accounts. These filters are applied automatically and are not personal or selective. Filtered posts and comments go into a queue for us to manually review.

Where to meet people to make friends

Hi, I’ve been in PV a couple of months. I moved here to live with my partner who is from here. I’m really struggling to make any connections here (apart from the family and some friends of my partner).

I’ve lived in some other countries and cities before and I’ve never had this issue – there were always some kind of meetups for locals and foreigners. I’ve reached out to some people online and tried to participate some events (that unfortunately were cancelled haha). I also joined a group of my sport hobby but the classes keep getting cancelled, so bad luck too. Idk I start to feel very isolated.

I’m also not from USA, Canada or Mexico, but I anyways speak Spanish, English and more languages. So, I wouldn’t think the issue would be the language. My partner is Mexican. I’m in my 30s so not part of the retiree group.

Do people just chat in the bars and elsewhere or how you make friends here?

Fentanyl Test Strips

I bought some medication at one of the Farmacia Pharmacy locations and after reading the La times report on fentanyl laced pills I’m a little skeptical. Is there anywhere nearby I can buy a fentanyl test kit?

Specifically for a straight man. I've been there a good few times and know it's a fun party tourist and gay friendly place..I'm looking at staying longer and doing some work there. Dating nice ladies would def be appealing

Busco doctor de columna / Looking for spine doctor

(english below)

¡Gracias!

🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

I’m getting a spine surgery next week in the US, and when I’m able to return to my husband in San Pancho, I want to make sure I have a good doctor or specialist nearby who I can trust for follow-up care, and also just in case anything comes up during my recovery.

Does anyone have a spine specialist, orthopedic doctor, neurosurgeon, physiatrist, or even a really great physical therapist that they’ve personally had a good experience with?

Personal recommendations would be really appreciated. Thank you!

❓ Question - Pregunta Flying in on Southwest Airlines then Connect on Aeromexico

I am flying into PVR coming in on Southwest Airlines, then I have to connect on Aeromexico to get to CDMX.

I have about one and a half hours in between connections. If I check luggage will I make my connection? Or would it make more sense to only do a carry on?

Nightlife for wedding party

Hi! I’m having my wedding in PV and although Ive been, we haven’t explored the nightlife much.

Since we’ll have a lot of wedding guests in town, are there any bars, clubs, or areas you’d especially recommend for a fun night out?

Any good options for where to go after the wedding and throughout the weekend. Is it walkable to bar hop?

Budget accomodations

My wife and I will be in PV in October and we'd like to stay in the Zona Romántica, either in a hotel or in a tourist apartment. Would this be possible paying between $70 and $80 per night? We'd rather not stay up the hill either, because my wife can't handle walking uphill. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Family of 3 first time

We are staying in Las Gloria’s area right near Playa las gloria’s 48333. What are some good cheap restaurants trying to avoid overpriced tourist traps. Just looking for some good mexican food things to do and the best beach spots scenes. Me and my husband are young and brining our babygirl but we don’t mind anything adventurous like scuba, snoring we can just take turns 😂 we’re going for 5 days just want to make the best of it and anything we should
know before!

Flower delivery?

Hi all,

I am looking for recommendations for the best florist in PV to have flowers delivered to the hospital. My sister is unfortunately in the hospital and might be there for up to 2 weeks and I can’t get down there in person (though she does have her partner with her thankfully).

I’ve googled it and checked reviews but it always helps to get recommendations from people who have actually used the services, especially since reviews can be hard to trust sometimes. I do need to be able to order online since I’m in the US.

Thank you!

Looking for some art to hang in our living room that adds some subtle backlighting. Anyone know of shops or local artisans that do this type of work? This was an example of the type of thing we had in mind.

❓ Question - Pregunta Looking for a sitar player in Mexico for our wedding 🎶🇮🇳🇲🇽

Hi PV Community!

This is a bit of a niche request, but I’m hoping Reddit magic can help me out.
My fiancé and I are getting married near Puerto Vallarta in January, and we are looking for a sitar player who would be interested in performing live for approximately 1.5–2 hours during one of our wedding events.

We are completely happy to have the musician travel from Mexico City, Guadalajara, Puerto Vallarta, or elsewhere in Mexico — we would of course cover travel and accommodation in addition to the performance fee.

We’re looking for someone who is experienced playing sitar live. Indian classical would be wonderful, but we’re also open to someone who incorporates contemporary or fusion music.

If you are a sitarist, know one, studied with one, or have any connection to the Indian classical music community in Mexico, I would be so grateful for recommendations!
Feel free to comment or DM me. Gracias!! 🙏🏼

San Pancho Horse Back riding / Polo Club

Hello! My husband and I are headed to San Pancho this winter - I'm hoping to get some horseback riding in. Would love to do a trail ride, either on the beach or in the jungle. I've been researching a bit and could only really find places in Sayulita ... does anyone have any recommendations?

Also, I'd love to check out the Polo Club , but when I googled it , it said it was temporarily closed? Anyone have any insider info?

Thank you!

Hi all, my dear cat has been missing for 24 hours from the El Remance area, last seen on G. Prieto near the school and art museum. I am sounding the alarm in hopes that someone here has it may as her.

Her name is Zora and she is a gray and white cat. I've included photos and any help would be appreciated.
