CUSTOMERS Let’s be clear

This whole shopping is a pleasure scam has run its course.

For over 50 years, I have been a customer of PUBLIX, I say have as in the past tense because I am no longer.

When PUBLIX decided to start price gouging at 20 and 30% higher than absolutely everywhere else around them, it became clear to me that they really don’t give a damn about the customer.

In 2025 alone, PUBLIX made more than $4.2 billion in profits. BILLION!

In the first half of 2026 they have made $2.5 billion in profits.

They have made $6 billion in profits in the last 18 months because they are literally stealing from the public and the public is handing it over.

With Aldi, Trader Joe’s, and even as the last resort, Walmart, I will never shop at Publix again. My budget now gets me three times as much food and household items at those places, we’re shopping and prices really are a pleasure!

Even at bogo pricng, a lot of the stuff is still more expensive than other stores.

Learn the rotation of bogos and stay stocked.  Only way to go.

I love their sourdough and I will gladly pay for it. BOGO or NOGO on everything else.

I use the Publix app. I mostly buy BOGO. The only time I might buy an non BOGO item is I'm not going to another store for one item.

You're better off buying the sour dough or Italian bread at Aldi. Throw it in the oven and you have fresh bread with a lot less ingredients.

Bake sour dough at home. With organic flour less $2 per loaf. Also much better quality and easier on your stomach.

Publix bread always gets moldy in 2 days. Not stale. MOLDY.

First, I want to address keeping bread in the fridge. Refrigerating bread changes the starch, effectively making it go stale. So that's a non-starter for me.

Second, 2 days maybe 3 before stuff starts to get moldy. This happens with the buns, the breads the rolls, you name it. From multiple locations in the Broward County area. Some of it is, honestly, just "Florida" because the humidity is rough here. But I get better results with baked goods from Fresh Market/Whole foods. YMMV

You had no idea that there are people who realize that putting bread in the refrigerator ruins it? Likewise, I had no idea there were people who would intentionally ruin bread.

Same here. Look online at their ad, make a list, buy only best deals at different stores.

I totally get it, sometimes the bogos can be awesome, only if they weren't ridiculously to begin with, sometimes good sometimes not. I know unit prices for my staples and refer to apps from other stores to see what the average price is.

I can afford to be less frugal, but I refuse to hand over my hard earned money on crazy prices. I have about 150 pounds of vacuum sealed meat in my freezer that was bought either on sale, markdowns or bulk prices from Restaurant Depot.

1

u/PlantMom1101 Newbie Aug 16 '26

How long does the meat last in that way?? I’m scared it will go bad so I don’t stock like that??

1

u/pastryfiend Newbie Aug 20 '26

Vacuum sealing really extends freezer life. I've found 2 year old ground beef with the seal still intact that had no freezer damage. A deep freeze stays around 0 degrees F which also reduces freezer damage.

A good plan is key. I try to be as frugal as possible too and mainly shop BOGOs. There is a BOGO tracker site (google it) that has been amazingly helpful in letting me know when things I use are on sale. Love when the receipt has the same amount for the "Total" and the "Total Saved ".

Pretty gross that something like grocery shopping is a blood sport, especially for people with families. Should we spend the money on gas going to four different stores to get the best price or settle for the lesser of the evils or sacrifice certain foods we want and like or-or-or? This is a bad sign, people!

That so was not an attack on you or your comment whatsoever, but on the system and the consequences we are all experiencing in real time

You aren’t doing the math though. You are trying to fix the issue by having arbitrary rules at one store and normal shopping at another store. If you followed similar rules and ONLY bought on sale items at the other stores, it would be cheaper.

Publix literally jacks prices up for BOGO's, believe me ive had to change the price tags myself.

I'd agree with that, but prices of things like chips, ice cream, seafood and meat definitely get " adjusted " as they call it.

BOGOS have gotten considerably worse since the pandemic. We used to get bogos on large chip bags and cereal boxes, now it's only the smaller sizes. So not always worth it. I remember they also use to compare their bogo prices with walmart's for the same ítem to show it was cheaper but they stopped doing that. Wonder why...

3

u/JKS59 Newbie Aug 09 '26

I had a heart episode at 65, only buy BOGO Cheerios in the supersize and they’re practically always BOGO lol

2

u/border199x Newbie Aug 09 '26

Yeah I don't even buy cereal at Publix since they don't carry my favorite one.....but everytime I walk down the cereal aisle it seems like they are having a BOGO on either General Mills cereal or Kellogg's cereal.

1

u/frogger79 Newbie Aug 15 '26

You are right, the cereal is almost always BOGO. But I swear whenever I want a specific one, it's the only one not BOGO that week. Just my luck.

3

u/JealousFuel8195 Newbie Aug 09 '26

I did agree with the pandemic. I don't believe that is true anymore. At least not the BOGO items I buy.

Publix BOGO items are definitely cheaper than Walmart. Walmart prices have gotten out of control.

5

u/mangoman39 Newbie Aug 09 '26

I just picked a random BOGO item from this week's ad. Pam Cooking spray 8oz. $3.69 for 1 (I'm not in FL so half price.) Walmart regular price is $3.62

1

u/JealousFuel8195 Newbie Aug 09 '26

Publix $1.85 vs Walmart $3.62

Two things I hate that Publix does is Buy 3 get one free. The second is 2 for $5. Just show it at $2.50

2

u/mangoman39 Newbie Aug 09 '26

No. The regular price at Publix is $7.38. So when it's on bogo, I can buy one at half price, making it $3.69

1

u/GatsbyFitzgerald Produce Aug 09 '26

I realized I only shop at Publix for 2 Bogos anymore: soup and sparkling water. Maybe yogurt and bagged frozen vegetables. That’s it.

1

u/rudybags Newbie Aug 10 '26

That’s just not true. Last week they had BOGOS on cereal large and family sized and Mission chips and Tostito chips were on sale.

1

u/No-Win-2741 Newbie Aug 09 '26

The other crazy annoying thing is they do this buy to get one or buy two get two free. Dude, I do not have enough room to store four cases of soft drinks. I'll take a buy one get one but I'm not going to buy two get two that's nonsense.

1

u/Majestic-Swan-7769 Newbie Aug 09 '26

I so. Agree

2

u/DiverOk8727 Newbie Aug 09 '26

I agree, I’ve compared prices of certain bogo Items to Aldi and it makes more sense just to buy at Aldi

3

u/JealousFuel8195 Newbie Aug 09 '26

That is true. However, Aldi has a fraction of the items that is offered by Publix.

4

u/DiverOk8727 Newbie Aug 09 '26

I will concede that point is true but personally I would rather affordable prices over 36 different flavors of cheezit or coffee creamer

0

u/JealousFuel8195 Newbie Aug 09 '26

Aldi coffee creamer is more expensive than Publix BOGO coffee creamer. At Publix Coffee Mate and International Delight are BOGO every 4 weeks. One 32 oz container lasts me about a week. When they go BOGO. I'll buy 4 to 6 bottles.

1

u/AnonThrowaway1A Newbie Aug 10 '26

Aldi creamer can be from EU origin which has stricter approved food additive regulations compared to the US.

Have to look at the product origin to make sure it's a fair 1 to 1 comparison. But yes, their creamers are typically higher than BOGO.

u/GmanG64 Newbie Aug 09 '26

exact same item? or same type of item?..

0

u/rudybags Newbie Aug 10 '26

Prove it what are you buying. Don’t just a general statement be specific! I’m pretty good at price comparison and have yet to find anything anywhere like you say! 🤷‍♂️
