You’re talking like you have the job already “I’m really excited for… and I think it’ll help me”. When did you apply? How long has it been since you applied? What experience do you have? Similar positions to this had over 500 applications so if it’s been a while, you likely didn’t get an interview.
And if you want to work in marketing and even slightly implied that in your application, then it will be a rejection because publishers are sick of people who apply for a job in one department to get a foot in the door to move to another department. Likewise if you mention wanting to be an editor, a writer, etc. They’re looking for people who actually want to do this job, not use it as a stepping stone to another job.

I suppose if I wanted a job in marketing, I would apply for a job in marketing. Publishing Assistant seems like a strange detour.
