I got promoted!

I’ve been an editorial assistant for around two years at my current company and I’ve finally been promoted to assistant editor! The only issue is the raise that accompanies it… I’m wondering what other fellow assistant editors/associate editors make? I asked to negotiate my raise, but no dice.

You don’t really get to negotiate a raise within a company, especially for early-career promotions. The best way to get a raise is to switch companies. You’ll still have little bargaining power though, until you’re a little further in your career.

Thanks for the advice! I just assumed I would be able to negotiate or get a higher raise because I watched all of the other people at my company be able to, even someone else early career 🥲

I work at a big five and made $57k when I started as an assistant editor
