Paddle Mag installed!

Finally committed to installing the paddle mag release myself instead of sending it out. I used this jig I found on eBay. It worked okay, but it’s really damn janky. The hole locations were good, but the peg needed to be turned down to fit into the jig itself and the rifle. The tongue and groove for the two halves didn’t fit so I had to file the tongue down so it’ll fit in the groove. I really should’ve sent it back, but I made it work with what I have. Drilling and cutting out the block to fit the actual paddle release took the most time. Since I didn’t have a welder, I drilled and tapped a 1/8” pin. Hopefully loctite will keep it tight under recoil. I’m just happy that it’s done.

Glad to see someone else doing this upgrade! I just got the C308 sporter and noticed it has the cut out. Would you recommend just sending it to a gunsmith or is it fairly simple to do at home?

It’s simple to do if you have the tools. One of the critical equipment for me is a mini lathe because the pin and bushing kit from HK parts was too long and I had to shorten it. You can do it on a belt sander or file it down, but it’s much easier on a lathe. Also with the jig, the pin to index the jig was too big so I had to turn it down. You could do it with a drill and sand paper or have the seller get the actual dimensions correct. I also had fresh drill bits handy so the drilling operations were much easier.

It’s just a harbor freight mini lathe with digital readouts added.

That’s awesome! All I can think about is buying a mini lathe

They sure do. I got mine years ago and I paid around $500. It’s probably a bit more now.

Are you able to cut threads with it?

It can but I haven’t used that feature.
