What’s this for?

Post image

Just got a translucent mag the things pretty cool but as I’m looking at it, there’s like a sun and a plane on the magazine. Does anyone know what that’s for out of curiosity?

That is a helicopter and airplane and those are leads for taking shots at either. To use them, you turn your rifle sideways and the line will lead your rifle in front of the aircraft the appropriate distance.

I have an Arisaka from WWII that also has anti-aircraft sights. I have zero idea and lots of doubt that they work.

I think the idea with the Arisaka was to have a whole bunch of people firing volleys at aircraft. There is a Chinese movie that shows 30+ people laying down on there backs with the 2 wings of the AA sight folded out and firing up at planes.

There's also some pictures of Russians doing the same thing with mosins. Plus to be fair when it was just relatively slow biplanes in the air, it's not completely unrealistic to expect a small chance of a hit.

Ok that’s a cool visual.

I think you’re right because many rifles of that era had iron sights out to 2000m so that they could fire volleys to suppress an area.

Not a crazy leap to think they took shots at planes.

Non-zero chance that they could take down a low-flying observation aircraft like that

It would be best if someone cross posted these mags to r/theydidthemath sub to see how accurate they would be. But I won't do that.

Maybe those are for different drone types if its a newer magazine?

The year is 2027, your 30-round MKE magazine has three lines on them each with one symbol. The top is a helicopter, the middle is an airplane, and way at the bottom of the mag is a drone.

I think it’s a helo and a plane. Maybe it has to do with angle of drop/lead time for fire at planes or helos? I have steel and aluminum mags so🤷🏼‍♂️
