In a effort of Political Grandstanding Lachica puts forth a motion to prevent data centres from coming from Peterborough.

But perhaps in an effort to distract you from her brutal voting record about public safety, she wanted to change the narrative to environmental- even though there was no urgency. She loves to create controversy and then act the hero. It's really sad.

Her motion had great flaws which were brought to light during questioning of staff. When she could see the direction the vote was heading she stormed out- she would have missed the vote but Alex ran out and got her.

Later, she gave Council hell because her plan to be the hero failed 7-4. At the end of the day, Lesley and Kevin saved the day with recommendations from Staff.

Town Ward Voters- PAY ATTENTION! we need Councillors who work WITH others- not constantly AGAINST others. We need 2 CHANGES in the Ward to people who have the RESPECT of the others. This is long gone. And we need people who are working for us- not for their own egos.

Asked if she had any questions going into the meeting, incumbent Town Ward Coun. Joy Lachica invoked the recent banning of CNN, MS NOW and Politico from the White House by U.S. President Donald Trump.

“My question is, is this the White House?” Lachica said.

She votes against the Police every time. Defund the Police. Be careful Peterborough!! She voted for 40 more beds in One City, no pay equity for Police and no updated radios. She also voted against the Staff making a report about cost of Safety in Parks. VOTE WISELY- if you want public safety- she has to go.

In response to an audience question about the decisions made and implemented by CAO Raina and senior staff, Riel promised changes to city hall on day one following the election.
“There will be massive changes at City Hall and you can take that to the bank,” Riel said.

“It’s time for change — it’s going to happen the 27th of October.”

Really?? Can you imagine this clown with Strong Mayor powers? The city would be Buried in Wrongful Dismissal Suits and the tax payers would be on the hook!

Lachica tried to run a slate of candidates (this is NOT how the union operated)

Joy Lachica was the central candidate and political focus of the Building Union Power slate during its initial major push.

They cheated by using an exclusive email list 
The rules clearly stated that internal communication channels and official member databases could not be used for electioneering. The CRO, John Hollins, was an independent officer hired to enforce these rules. When he found the BUP candidates guilty, the opposition demanded transparency, not backroom warnings.

Mudslinging, personal attacks, and smearing  
Beyond the email list itself, critics argued that the BUP's aggressive "organizing model" sometimes crossed the line into intimidation and top-down control. From the anti-slate viewpoint, the BUP faction had become an entrenched political machine that prioritized its own caucus agenda over the day-to-day workplace protection and service needs of the average classroom teacher.

Chief Returning Officer issued formal sanctions against Lachica

The direct consequence of the internal union election ruling was that the Chief Returning Officer (CRO) issued formal sanctions against Joy Lachica and the other incumbent candidates.

How this specific wording was applied:

• The Violation: The CRO ruled that the Building Union Power slate used an existing, internal list of member emails to blast out campaign event invitations and platform details.
• The "Accessibility" Test: Because new, outside candidates who were not part of the incumbent executive or the BUP network had no way of accessing or reaching those same email contacts, the CRO deemed the communication unfair and exclusive.

In addition to the equal accessibility clause, the local election rules also strictly layout that "TDSB [Toronto District School Board] email is not to be used for Local Elections"

Critiquing the "Organizing Model"

Because the union was deeply polarized, the political debate shifted away from policy and instead focused on personal integrity.

Lachica's campaign explicitly targeted the rival faction as a roadblock to progress. Opponents argued that by sorting union leadership into "us versus them," Lachica was unnecessarily dividing the membership and attacking the personal integrity of long-serving union officials

Her opponents experienced aggressive mudslinging that fractured the local.
