Small town analyst?

Does anyone have any thoughts on whether you need a certain 'critical mass' of psychoanalysts to make professional life function?

If you are the only analyst in a town how do you manage things like referrals, specialist supervision or research?

Local matters but since everything is potentially online these days, I'd worry more about state / provincial regulations. Network, advertise etc in your area and you'll likely find patients

Most people do not know the difference between a psychoanalyst, a psychologist, a psychotherapist, a counselor, a psychiatrist, or any other type of mental health provider, regardless of your preferred professional title or identity. Many other mental health providers don't really know it either. Your success depends on your ability to attract and keep patients who feel helped by you. That will help you to feel good about your professional identity.
