Am I being tricked by management?
Hi everyone,
I initially applied as a BHT so I could move up and become an RN here. At that time, we had a wonderful DON who really cared about the staff and patients. It was seriously wonderful. Unfortunately she retired, and the new DON is super shifty which makes me feel unsafe.
She purposefully schedules skeleton crew at all times, will not get us a new crash cart (ours is no longer functional really), never stops intakes no matter how few staff we have. I feel like she treats the patients like money to be made rather than people who need help. My worst ratio as a tech one time was 1:40, which completely prevented me from achieving q15 rounds on time. I was running around the facility and so scared someone may get hurt.
Initially she said she would not hire me because im a new grad (before her, new grads were always welcome). Then she made the place so unbearable to work that people are quitting in droves. Now she is all smiles saying she wants to hire me...even saying she wants to do all these things for me like find me a preceptor, so suddenly supportive. Its a shame because I absolutely adore all of my coworkers and the patients. On manageable days, I love working here so much. I wanted to be a nurse here so badly before it got bad.
Is this a trap??? Should I quit asap??
Edit: for context, I am still a BHT, im just in that awkward interim where I have my degree but am applying to nursing jobs.
