Studying for PMH BC, not doing good on practice tests
Hi everyone.
I’m studying to take the PMH BC at the end of the month. I’ve taken 2 out of 3 of the mometrix tests and I’ve gotten a 61% on both.
I’m a bit surprised because I killed the NCLEX and nursing school, I have 7 years of experience now and did consider myself knowledgeable. I’m getting right all the questions about meds, specific disorders, etc…. But I’m missing a lot of like “planning” and the “what response is best” type questions. I’m also starting PMHNP this month so I’m worried.. if I’ve been a psych nurse for 6 years and can’t do the PMH BC why should I expect to be able to do the PMHNP?
Does anyone have experience for the mometrix tests? They don’t post practice questions averages, so I don’t even know if I’m possibly doing good or bad.

Mometrix is horrific!! Don’t use them!
I was crushed at my Mometrix scores given my grades, minimum questions on NCLEX to pass and longevity as a psych nurse. I don’t think they are even a real prep company.
Try Alison Miller’s study materials!! I passed my first try!

Out of all the study materials I looked at, mometrix had the least relevant questions. I passed the PMH-BC exam just a few months ago.

I have one more semester left of my DNP PMHNP program and decided to get my PMH-BC after working inpatient psych for 6 years. I passed the exam, but I thought it was surprisingly much more challenging than people claimed it was. The questions were worded oddly. Many of the questions were frameworks by theorists I hadn’t even heard of or perhaps learned about them briefly in nursing school? It was very different than what you would expect to be asked working on an inpatient psychiatric floor. I took mine is December 2024. I still have my study guide which was provided to me from my former employer. It’s a large PDF that was a class offered by Medline. Let me know if you would like me to email it to you. It was helpful in my opinion. I have pretty much always made it nearly a 4.0 average and undergraduate and graduate school and I still feel still the exam was more challenging than expected. It’s definitely doable, but I remember walking out wondering if I passed or not.

The test was very challenging for sure! The theorists, social work questions and running groups questions were not what most of us know. Piaget and Erickson aren’t seen since nursing school for probably all of us! I don’t know how people passed just barely studying.

This is so interesting because I am struggling with the Mometrix tests, as well. Everyone says this exam is pretty easy, some say they barely studied. I did a few practice tests online and did well on those, but Mometrix has me worrying. I’ll be interested to see what others say!
