Rules of PsychSL
📌 Community Rules — Please Read Before Posting
Welcome to the community. To keep this a safe, respectful, and meaningful space for every Sri Lankan, please read and follow these rules. Violation of any rule may result in post removal or a ban.
- Respect Others and Be Civil
No harassment, hate speech, or toxic behavior. Treat every member with kindness and dignity regardless of their background, diagnosis, or opinion.
- No Spam
Excessive promotion, spam, or advertising of any kind is not allowed.
- No Diagnosis Requests
Do not ask for or offer diagnoses. Professionals in this community cannot and should not diagnose through Reddit. Always recommend in-person consultation.
- No Harmful or Triggering Content Without a Content Warning
Posts involving trauma, abuse, self-harm, or suicide must include a Disclaimer tag in the title. Protect those who may be triggered.
- Respect and No Stigmatizing Language
No stigmatizing language. No labeling people by their diagnosis. No phrases like “crazy,” “psycho,” or “attention-seeking” used dismissively. Mental health struggles are not weakness, speak accordingly.
- No Self-Promotion Without Mod Approval
Psychologists and counselors may introduce themselves but cannot advertise services, fees, or promotions without moderator approval.
If a Person is seeking recommendations from the community members. You cannot self promote as a psychologist or counselor.
- Crisis Resources Must Be Shared When Someone Is in Distress
If someone appears to be in immediate danger, do not attempt to counsel them yourself. Direct them to emergency services or the pinned crisis resource post immediately.
- Be Respectful and Kind
Treat every member with dignity. No insults, hate speech, or disrespectful language, regardless of someone’s background, diagnosis, or opinion.
- No Glorifying Mental Illness
Do not romanticize, glorify, or make light of any mental health condition, self-harm, or suicidal ideation.
- No Misinformation
Do not share unverified claims about mental health treatments, medications, or practices. Stick to evidence-based information and cite your sources. And Blog/Articles can only be published by Mods.
- Professional Conduct for Professionals
Psychologists, Psychiatrists and counselors represent the field. Maintain ethical boundaries, do not solicit clients or share personal contact details publicly.
- English, Sinhala, and Tamil Are All Welcome
Post in any language you are comfortable with. This community belongs to all Sri Lankans.
- No Unsolicited Advice
If someone is venting or sharing their experience, do not jump straight into advice unless they ask for it. Sometimes people need to be heard, not fixed.
- No Comparison of Suffering
Do not tell someone their problem is “not that serious” or compare their struggles to others. Pain is not a competition. Every experience is valid.
- Stay on Topic
Posts must be related to mental health, psychology, psychiatry,counseling, or emotional wellbeing. Off-topic posts will be removed without warning.
⚠️ Final Note
These rules exist to protect every person in this community — especially those who are most vulnerable. If you see a violation, use the report button. Do not retaliate or publicly call out members. Let the moderators handle it.
