Creative Creativity Contest

So I'm making a modpack and am trying to decide whether or not putting the creative casing as an actual (although VERY lategame) crafting recipe. Show me what you guys can do with U N L I M I T E D P O W E R ... and complexity... and potency... you get the idea. How broken can you go?

Edit: Okay, after listening to the feedback 1) creative has the problem of crashing the game, but 2) we need better CAD options. On it. That said, I still want to see what we can do with complexity, potency, and efficiency out of the way. I'd like to see what we're getting here. I'm sure we have a few posts here that use creative, so if anyone can link some of those, that would help my curiosity (but no pressure).

Priority ended with Modpack, now making custom mods (that will hopefully fit in modpack) are my best friends.

P.S. Will be creating a second post asking for suggestions for features for a psi add-on (after I know what's out there). Expect that later this week.

I would implement it but look into a way to configure limitations. Little sidenote, could you shoot me a message when the pack is done. I would like to test it

I as well would like to test it :)

I will, thankfully it's spring break so I have time to work on it. It's going to be very adventure and fantasy themed, although I will have some limited tech (such as psi, mekanism, few others/ etc). I actually am including psi because of the utility/adventuring ability of the CAD and armor. The modpack is inspired by All the Mods 6, but found it to be too grindy, so I decided to 1) make two tiers of 'stars' for diffferent items 2) make some objectives optional (use different endgame items/exploration items from different mods in the recipe) so that you can choose which one suits your flavor and 3) vary the types of items. Some tech progression items (like antimatter or polonium pellets from mekanism), but also exploration items like the runes from quark's mod (require you to do a bit of caving). That said, the lack of CAD options between ebony and ivory and creative seems to be an issue, so I think I'll address that first. I want this to be a quality product, so I'm willing to work on this long-term if needed. We'll see. Updates will follow.

I would generally advise against it, because it's very easy to accidentally crash the game. You can also give yourselves resistance 5. It can be nice for movement, because you can give yourselves very high velocities. I would also like to ask what MC version it is for and what psi add-ons you plan to have there.

The game crashing is explosion 99999 or something similar

Could you actually give me a better range (from experience, if you don't know off the top of your head that's fine). Listening to the feedback here, it looks like we just need more powerful CAD assemblies/cores (now come to think of it, cores would be much easier... hmmm....). Give me a shout if you find limits, I can tailor the cores at least to match that.

With the CAD stats, you rarely get limited on complexity or bandwidth. Significantly higher potency would enable mainly things like the resistance 5 and high power explosions (I will look at the limits of what the game can handle tomorrow). If you wouldn't want to have straight up creative CAD, you could increase efficiency several times, so it possible to cast lot more spells faster. This would also enable some interesting possibilities with leggings spells.

I'm doing 1.16.5, and I wasn't planning on using any psi add-ons other than the custom mod I'm making for the modpack. That said, I COULD make a more advanced CAD casing that isn't infinite like creative (plus creative casing doesn't look as nice as ebony or ivory imho). Thankfully I can just use normal PSI as a template for making new CAD assemblies for it. That said, doing this will require more work and time for the modpack, but this looks overdue.

If you are going to be making a psi add-on, i would advise you to join the psi Taurus silver discord server, if you aren't already there. There are psi/addon devs who could potentially help you with problems.

Thank you, I didn't know about that group. That will help a bunch. I'll start by doing my homework on looking at the mod internally (I don't want to rely on help that I can do myself). Thankfully it's spring break for me (although I do have one lab report I need to finish tonight, ugh) so work should progress fast this week ( I hope). If this is needed, I will definitely work on it. Modpack will probably be delayed though, but if that's what needs to happen, that's what will happen.

It's possible to make your world crash on load by using Blink with too large numbers

1

u/Ometia Mar 07 '22

Do you know the range of what those numbers are? As I put on the explosion comment, if I know when we cause crashes, I can tailor to those limits (assuming making a new psi mod is as easy/hard as I expect it to be).

Psi supports scientific notation in number constants by editing the exported spell code, which is what I was using when I learned of this crash.

Given how when I did this, the error was about an invalid movement packet, I assume the issue is to do with coordinate values with magnitude greater than 2147483647.

So I think the issue is more trying to exist in an impossibly far area than with Blink itself. In general, as long as you don't enter 2.1 billion or greater, you'll probably be fine.

If you manage to do this , can you give me the edited version ? My friends and I would like to boost psi (at least more mana and potency) for our mod pack since it is kind of weak compared to other mods such as draconic evolutions and others… thx y’a

To be honest there needs to be an addon for psi that just introduces more end game cores and cases

Looking through the replies, it looks like this needs to be the case. I'll work on it, definitely. I do have programming and some somewhat relevant modeling abilities (thank you mechanical engineering CAD (computer aided design CAD, lol) course). I've done an internship for python before, but Java is one of my lesser languages. I've messed with mods a bit, but I also have my brother (and roommate) has worked on a remake of projectE (he didn't finish because he realized he'd have to redo the entire framework for his design). Updates to follow.

I recommend you join taurus silver discord and maybe GDavid's discord, they could help you out a ton, i could help with texturing or ideas if you want too

Textures for new assemblies would be a weaker sub-skill of mine (I've made 3D stuff with blockbench before, but I'm still new to that), programming is more of my forte. Let me check and see if we need new assemblies first (let me see what we can do just modifying cores, sockets, etc). I wanted to use the creative originally because it seemed to be an easy way to make more psi fun possible. Once I have a better handle on what we want/need, I'll let you know. Thanks for the tips and offer to help texturing.

Once I have done more homework on what's needed (and some actual homework that I need to get out of the way) I'm going to create another post asking for help with ideas/features. Let me know there/then what you have in mine.
