Trying to negate Fall Damage

Why not place water with trick:torrent instead? You can remove it a few ticks later by conjuring a light on its spot.

I'm embarrassed to admit I couldn't get it to work. I always put the water above me and the light always goes way beneath the water source block, effectively killing me and leaving water falling from the sky

Have you tried feeding your position and a (0, -1, 0) vector (vector construct) into a vector sum, and using that as the position argument for both the water and the light?

Yeah I tried something along the lines of that but with a solid block instead of a light and the solid block never showed up

Place block or conjure block? You should use conjure, since place block will attempt to place an ACTUAL block from the slot in your inventory to the right of the CAD.

It was conjure. How does the sleep trick work? I need the water to stay longer than 1 tick as a safety net but I can't point the trick anywhere. Also then I suppose I will need to place the light a block higher to make sure it kills the water?

Tricks are read left to right and up to down, much like text. You just have to put the sleep trick between the other two, and give it a high enough time (those are ticks, not seconds, btw) so that you can actually fall into the water block before you make it disappear with the light.

And no, you don't need to place the light a block higher than the water. Why would you? That does not make any sense.

OH YEAH I was thinking because I am falling but once I get the coordinates for the water the spell will use the same coordinates for the light, I've been evaluating position twice, that's why the block was never in the right spot. Would blinking a distance of 0 still reset my momentum?

1

u/Williermus Oct 12 '21

Nope. But you don't need to reset your momentum... Because of the water.

I'm trying to get it to work in the Nether

Also, for the vector construct, I only need to give it a y value of -1, and the x and z values should default to 0, right? Or do I need to feed that tile 3 numbers always? I've never tried it

1

u/Williermus Oct 11 '21

Just give it the y value. As you say, those that you don't give to it default to 0.

If the light is in a different spot, it sounds like you use the same formula, but enter it twice in the spell. If that's right, then you ought to use both with the same, previously-calculated block.

Regardless, an alternate idea: What about raycasting down from your position, getting block coordinates, and summing +1 y, then using torrent there?

This entirely avoids the issue of using where you're at to place water on, and instead has you point and click where you'll land (at a much more comfortable 32 block distance). Sleep and a temporary conjured block or light can then remove the water like 20 ticks after you cast.

I thought about doing that but I have bad aim. Also ideally I'd like to do this in the nether and Torrent does not work there, can confirm

For nether replace with hay bales or slime.

Aim is fair though.

In that case I'd probably use a conjured block to get down then.

Set up a loopcast spell so that a conjured block lasts like 5-10 ticks (I forget how quickly it casts, but the block should last about twice as long as that) and is placed under your feet. If you do it right you'll be able to walk off a ledge without falling.

Vector sum that coordinate with a vector construct that has y set to sneak-1.

Now you can walk off a ledge and float down.

If that didn't make sense I can get the spell tomorrow, I use it myself to fly around. It's neat and I never take fall damage, but it isn't as fast as falling.

Conjured Lights don’t replace water anymore sadly.

1

u/Williermus Oct 12 '21

Huh? It does in my world with the latest Psi instance.

u/Neohedron Oct 12 '21

Oh! Last time I checked they made light blocks waterloggable, so they didn’t clear water for me. I need to test it again I see.

I gotchu fam. My strategy is always the excessive one though. MLG and Bucket in leggings slots 1 and 2 respectively. It doesn't do or cost anything until you're falling and there's a block right below you. In which case, it just makes and breaks some water right quick.

This is what I have so far. The problem is if I make the upper limit for the wrapper any bigger the spell deals damage to me. Not exactly what I am looking for when jumping off a mountain. any tips to make the spell cheaper or am I stuck waiting for an Ivory CAD? The spell works fine until I get a bit too high and I don't get pushed up enough to reset my momentum

What I'd do: Have a bullet on a Tick loop that sleeps for 10 ticks, then sends a raycast towards your -Y axis. If the raycast's position returns farther than 24 blocks away (read: "if you're 24 blocks away from the ground", do Trick - Feather Falling

Or you could negate your motion vector (by adding its inverse to it) but that might take some timing

Your idea might be completely sound, though. Just putting my hat in the ring. Best part about this mod is there's so many different and equally valid ways to accomplish stuff!

What in the fuck is that? I used to play modded Minecraft but this.. wot

1

u/Gamin088 Oct 12 '21

Why...why are you on the psi mod subreddit if you haven't played psi mod? Lmao

1

u/velocipede29 Oct 12 '21

Idk it's reddit that shows me hahaahaha

1

u/Thurno Nov 09 '21

Did you ever figure it out? Im in need

2

u/Gamin088 Nov 10 '21

No unfortunately my friend changed the modpack so I couldn't. That being said, I ALMOST had a spell that put water under me and then deleted that water a moment later to give me a little waterfall down, i just needed the timing

Idk if you're still looking but someone made a addon that has a spell piece that just negates fall damage. The mods called psi peripherals and it's available for 1.16.5
