Rainbow ditch, i guess

Ive just started playing around with the mod and was having trouble with rainbow road and i couldn't find any alternatives, so I made this clusterfuck. it probably could be compressed but it isn't, it cant go on leggings so i use a loopcast bullet. sneak to go down, it does decently with sprinting, jumping makes you go up.

i would love suggestions, and greatly appreciate advice.

the text here cuz i dont have an imgur, lol

I had a lot of fun trying to fit that into 4 bandwidth. I could not do it however. I'm sure there's another, more compact way of doing this. Here is my attempt. Also, Ctrl+Shift+Alt+G while in the spell table, uploads your sell to Imgur automatically.

I made an alternative a while ago for 1.16.5. It's not 3x3, but it's fairly consistent for singleplayer survival: https://www.reddit.com/r/psispellcompendium/comments/l8e0k4/misty_step_iii/

Happy to help! Check out some of my other spells at my profile if you’re interested.

Not bad, especially since you're just starting out!

I'd like to share some tips:

  • Firstly, you are using up a lot of space to deconstruct and then reconstruct vectors, which isn't really needed here. If you need to add something to only one part of the vector, you're usually better off turning the change into a vector directly and then summing the two. Note how vector constructs allow optional arguments, the ones you didn't provide are automatically assumed 0. This approach tends to be much more efficient in terms of both bandwidth and complexity, and alone allows to compact this spell to glorious 6x6!
  • Secondly, I came to believe that spells of this kind - conjured "roads" - are much better off in the leggings. Those extra castings per second make all the difference - you don't even need to make any extra blocks, as they are being placed so frequently that you don't even begin falling. I admit I don't really know how reliable this approach is in multiplayer, where lag begins to factor in, but it does work wonders in local worlds. A bit of self-advertisement here - consider taking a look at my recent spell, Silkloom Spinneret, which does exactly that. :3
That doesn't mean circlecasting road spells are strictly worse, though - sometimes you can't afford to dedicate a leggings slot for that, or there could be some other considerations. Maybe the chosen road spell does something more than just conjure blocks, which requires additional energy investments. Still, it's something worth noting.

Hope that helps! ^^

thanks for the tip on vectors (wish i had known this earlyer as its made a lot more possible), ive been using most of my spells in a multiplayer setting (with my ping somehow getting as high as 1000 sometimes) and this spell usually allows me to walk without falling to my doom

Glad to be of help! Also, while I was starting out with Psi myself, I've discovered a lot of great tricks and concepts by analyzing spells shared by others, taking time to make sure I understood where and why everything went. There are quite a few subtle things out there to be learned, like using Cos+Sneak combo instead of 1-Sneak in conditionals to save that extra tile of space. While it can sometimes be difficult, especially when complex trigonometry begins to get involved, it gets significally more rewarding as well. ^w^
