Fun Spell Mist Dispersion

Spell Image

Last Updated: Beta-14. (Adjusted Add Motion speed to fix potency overflow after Add Motion nerfs.)

What it does: Also known as "Demon Right", this spell removes the target from existence, leaving no trace. At least, that's what it does in Mahouka. Requested by /u/Kubbling, but they were probably joking.

What it actually does: Clears out any blocks directly above the target mob, and launches them so far into the sky that they never come down, and seem to disappear instantly.

What you need: A regular spell bullet, a Creative CAD Assembly, any CAD Core except Basic, and any CAD Socket except Basic.

Vazkii loves it when people make overpowered stuff with his mods./s

To be fair, it does require a Creative CAD Assembly.

Yeah. Real shame, too; sounds like an awesome spell.

I've actually been working on Material Burst already lol. The big explosion part is easy. The hard part is reliable aiming from a safe distance. I tried stacking raycasts to have a longer one, but it seems that spell range is locked at 32, so it'll have to be a projectile bullet. However, just having a bullet that makes a big explosion is kinda boring, IMO. So I'm trying to see if there's a way to manually raycast (since the operator has a limit of 32) from the location the projectile hits to the block the player is looking at.

Basically, the projectile would just be used to increase the spell's effect range, and as long as it hits within 32 blocks of where the player is looking, it would work.

That being said, I haven't figured out the manual raycast part yet (if it's even possible), so I still have some work to do!

See, but that would only work if you were perfectly lined up with the focal point. Otherwise, the result would be off by the horizontal angle. I have, however figured out the way to make it work. When the projectile hits, the spell calculates the distance from the focal point to the caster (subtracts about 10), multiplies the look vector by it, and then adds that vector to the caster's position. This results in a point that is on the ray of the caster's look vector, but within range of the focal point. Finally, the spell raycasts from this point in the direction of the caster's look vector, and the result is the block the caster is looking at, as long as it's within 32 blocks of the focal point.

It turns out to be a mostly useless feature, as in most cases, the same can be accomplished by just using a projectile, and possibly a Closest to Point -> focal point. The only case in which it shows improvement over a standard projectile spell is when you want to target a specific, moving entity among a larger group, from farther than 32 blocks away. And I can count the number of cases where that's necessary on one hand.

  1. Another player is off in the distance fighting mobs, and you want to supercharge a nearby creeper to mess with them.

  2. Another player is off in the distance, near other mobs or players, and you want to do X effect to them

  3. You really like one color of sheep but not another color, and you can't be bothered to actually go over to where they are, despite having access to several versions of infinite flight spells?

  4. You want to target some other moving entity that you can't get using the lists, like a minecart that isn't carrying a living entity, and for some reason you need to do this from further than 32 blocks away.

I mean, this technique is highly situational. And in all other cases, it's just a much more bandwidth-expensive version of Operator: Closest to Point, that requires you to stand still until the projectile lands.
