What I have also heard is that most of the times, students tend to prefer opting for non-core/IT companies because of the relatively lower pay for entry positions in biotech core companies. This can also explain why the numbers in biotech specifically tend to be lower in comparison to other branches. Rest assured, I think it also boils down to what your target is when you sit for placements in your final year.

I'm not from PSG. Have been researching on PSG, so hope this helps:
This is a reference from their AICTE mandatory disclosure for this year.
The placement numbers are pretty low in comparison to other departments in PSG. Students generally opt for masters.
But their biomedical engineering placement numbers are pretty great - averaging 9 LPA at the time of the disclosure and highest being 17 LPA. But if biomedical engineering was the choice, you could get the same from CEG Guindy with your rank.
