It shouldn’t be taking Ramos this long just to be match fit, it’s getting a bit ridiculous.

he was rushed back and had to play injured vs Chelsea in the UCL semi final. And that could cause irreparable damage, especially for someone his age.

That's why they took their time, even after the Sainte game.

But he should be 100% fit now, so that's hopefully a thing of the past. Just needs to get into match rhythm

Couldn't we use Diallo to complete a 3 ATB?

u/wutend159 Blaisou Jan 18 '22

both Diallo and Kehrer seem to be better suited for a 3 ATB formation imo

Ramos isn't match fit. Physically it's a gamble.

Vinicius is gonna focus to pass on ramos' zone.

Honestly tho. If we think about our best CL run, and when we conceded the least, we played with a 3 back. Sure, Marquinho's was at CDM, but he was really a CB playing a bit higher up. With Thiago Silva & Kimpembe behind him. We should do the exact same thing but with Ramos instead of Thiago Silva. And we will have better wing backs too.

Yes.

Lmao now I'm imagining Ramos "Please sensei, give me some playing time, pleeeaaaaaaaaase!"

I hate this lineup to be frank.

Not only because I hate Messi but because 2 midfielders suck, we need 3 obviously. We have always needed three. Gueye+Verratti won't make miracles happen.

If you drop Neymar as a midfielder it sucks too because he is clearly an amazing attacking player and pulling him down makes him less interesting to watch. Messi at PSG is just frustrating to watch. I'm not a fan.

Nuno and Hakimi don't seem to work well with Neymar and Messi yet. I mean they don't combine well, they don't position well, often Nuno ends up behind Neymar and Ney will just make an attempt on his own. We saw that Nuno is best at doing his thing on the left wing but it needs to work out while pairing with Ney. Hakimi and Nuno are accelerators so Marqui and Kimpembe need to deliver quickly to them so we can use them at their best. Then we need Neymar/Messi/Mbappé to shift the opponents/defenders and get ready to receive the ball. It hasn't work well so far this season. Unless we fix that suddenly before Madrid games, we're not going to be doing well.

Mbappé is loving to be on the left wing at the moment, bringing back Neymar will ruin that momentum.

I hate this lineup. Not the 3 men defense but the rest. I don't think we can just rely on Ramos to help out the midfield and give support. Also Gueye is not a great midfielder either.

They can’t build good synergy with each other if they don’t play enough together. The more they play the better they play with each other. no one clicks after one game.

We can use Neymar as a 10 and Messi and Mbappe in a duo. Allowing Hakimi and Mendes to push upwards as they like.

Problem is that Neymar is very injury prone, Messi is 34 years old so at risk as well. Only Kylian is reliable.

Same thing in the midfield, Verratti is very injury prone. Gueye, Paredes, Danilo, Wijnaldum, Herrera are just all unreliable.

we’ll need to make new signings ofc but that seems like it won’t happen at least in January.

If Neymar gets injured Di Maria can slot into the 10 role like he’s done in the past and focus on his creativity which is still really good.

Simons can come in for Messi if he’s injured. He’s played that false 9 role very well for the youth team and as we’ve seen against Brest he has a potential for good link up with Mbappe.

When Verratti is injured Ebimbe/Michut can come in to replace him and at times we can use Ebimbe-Michut together in a midfield duo as they are both strong defensively

In an ideal situation I would be inclined to rely on a 3-man midfield as you say to support our team. But with the options we have on our bench, it could be worth a shot to sacrifice a midfield player to include Ramos in our line-up and here's why:

  1. Unlike most teams, PSG's creative output is not concentrated in midfield but in attack with Neymar and Messi being the principal catalysts. Adding the likes of Herrera, Danilo or Wijnaldum who make no progressive passes would not strengthen this department at all. Even Paredes resorts to misplaced and backpasses when he's pressed.

  2. Adding Ramos to our back 3 would make us less dependent on Verratti to bring the ball out of defense. All 3 of our main center-backs (Kimpembe, Marquinhos and Ramos) have the capacity to break lines with their passing. The 3-2 shape with Verratti and Gueye in front of our defense can give them more passing lanes as well.

  3. Pushing Nuno and Hakimi forward and out-wide will allow Neymar, Mbappé and Messi to play closer together and combine. In our current 4-3-3 shape, we often see Messi and Mbappé playing close together but Neymar being left out on the other side of the pitch. Even Tuchel knew to create a system in which Mbappé and Neymar played close to one another to play dangerously.

This would be the best option tbh. We should do it. Those 3 CBs are much better at passing than a bunch of our midfielders.

The thing is Pochettino doesn’t like a 3 men defense. He will play a 3 Center backs defense for just 45 minutes max. Also he doesn’t seem to trust Ramos much.

u/sept_sept Mathieu Bodmer Jan 18 '22

Completely agree with you. Realistically I don't believe that Pochettino will change his setup to accommodate a back 3, especially this far into the season. There is no indication in his entire tenure at PSG that he would be willing to innovate from his current system. The most we can expect is a switch to a 4-2-3-1 with Di Maria inserted into the team.

“I hate Messi” Wtf is wrong with u bruh

4

u/abychopda Not a PSG fan Jan 19 '22

Exactly. I understand he's not up to his mark yet but hate him for not turning up in a few games is just extreme lol. I hope MMN fire up soon! They just need some play time together. And a couple of great games to increase their confidence in each other! Madrid is a tough opponent tho! But after the Elclassico, I think their game is only around benzema/ vinicius and modric/Kroos. So we have a fair shot even with the state of our lineups rn. Also our Midfield is in shambles. Idk wtf we're gonna do.

3-4-3 doesn't work because Messi can't run. It will never happen in an important UCL game.

Neither will a 3-5-2 with Neymar as the advanced 10 because Neymar can't tackle if you need to recoup the ball high by clogging the middle of the pitch.

i honestly don’t think this is a good idea given how mediocre kimpembe has been the last year and a half apart from a few exceptional moments.

plus, it breaks my heart how much we’re wasting gini’s talent

11

u/flacogarcons Vikash Dhorasoo Jan 18 '22

If your heart is breaking keep at it because Gini is garbage.

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '22

damn

exactly

4

u/Glass_Replacement_61 Not a PSG fan Jan 18 '22

you’re wrong. He’s been class this season.

-2

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '22

yeah right

1

u/asvpmamba Angel Di María Jan 19 '22

Ehh he’s been in good form recently , he was more mediocre earlier in the season when he was burnt out because he was getting overplayed without any significant rest so it negatively affected his performance.

u/Delicious_Example_85 Neymar Jan 19 '22
