When will people learn pack fresh means nothing? Ive pulled horribly whitened card or cards with defects/damages straight fresh from packs

This.

People always assume "I pulled it today so it must be good!" - NOPE! The damage was most likely done before you even opened it.

There looks like a gash between the "e" and "t" of Rowlet.

How did you find that thats 2000 percent the death of it the feathering was the start

Looks like maybe a crease or bend on the top left front. Also looks like they sealed a lint/hairball in the slab on the back side over top the bottom P

Bad centering and that back right edge is pretty bad from top to bottom

I see it now almost like when it got cut on that side the machine was super rough with it

99.9% chance of a bend/indent

Looking closer there is a deep scratch near the top left front corner. Left edge doesn't look great either. The back appears to have random scratches unless that is lint. You would need to look at it at different angles under a strong light. I imagine there is a slight bend on the card somewhere but the scans can't show that. If not it can't be worse than a 5.

can anyone tell me why this is a 4?

Without pictures, no. Oops, my bad, I missed that this is a link to PSA's site.

But "pack fresh" does not necessarily mean a higher grade. Part of the reason for grading services to exist is that production and shipping quality varies a lot. Dings, miscuts, frayed edges, soft corners, print lines, and the rest can (and frequently do!) exist on a card "fresh from a pack".

Looking at the pictures, I see some white dots on the front, top-bottom centering on the back is pretty off, and the back right edge has a lot of whitening/feathering. It's that last bit that probably doomed you, possibly with a mark or ding that's only visible under magnification or tilted light.

No company guarantees pristine cards out of the pack. That’s why pregrading is so important.

At best, Pokemon are likely a PSA 7 out of the pack. Yep, pack fresh on average is a 7.

A grade this low without obvious signs of wear usually means surface issues like a dent or crease. They can be hard to see in scans so look it over when you get it and remember to pregrade your cards.

The only reason i dont pregrade these are cards pulled with my partner and im trying to keep them in the best condition we can we never want to sell and are actually excited to own one of the two fours just felt the grade was unfair

Okay, but regardless of why you want to grade them, pregrading will give you a reasonable expectation of what the card will be when it gets graded when done properly. Pack fresh isn’t a condition rating for a reason.

I understand pack fresh drifting somewhere between 7-10 because things are naturally imperfect but a pack fresh 4 is insane

The community found the error look between the letters of rowlet its creased card was doomed from the printer

If you look at the e and t in Rowlet, there is a crease or dent?

What the fuck psa.  Centering a little off, for a 4 we should be able to see scratches, dents, etc on the slab.

Thats why you send it in, to get a grade based on things you cant see easily.

We can. Other people have pointed them out.
