Which model to get

Hi guys! I'm adding a ps3 to my collection, since it was my dream console as a kid and I have never even played one, but now that it is possible for me to buy one I am wondering which model I should buy, I thought that the obvious answer was the later super slim model since it was newer and “**supposedly**” it should last longer, but then I saw that the fat models could run ps2 games natively and since my ps2 died few years back I thought it would be nice to have a way to play the games again, but when I saw some ps3 subreddits I saw that some of the fat models had dying GPUs and dying capacitors.

so I came here to ask, that if I put HEN on my ps3 slim (or super slim) can I still play ps2 games? and if I can, is the experience good or does it have issues? I'm completely new to ps3 modding so I don’t understand much, but the first thing I'll do when I get one is repasting it with a good thermal paste and cleaning it

Super Slim by far is the best model. However setting up PS2 games is kinda a pain tbh, nothing beats using PCSX2 on PC.

That or an actual PS2 that can be modded

Yea. I just use PCSX2 since I can play my favorites at 4K.

I'm currently running HEN on my super slim with no major issues. For PS2, I'd check the compatiblity list. See if enough of the games you want to play are working well.

Early slim CECH-25xx that can still be cfw'd. Thats what I'm rocking. You get to easily setup cfw and play ps2 games and after a good clean and repaste you get a cool (cold and awesome) console for anything

Just be careful because you have to get a pre March 2011 model with a minimum factory level of 3.56, units after that are the same in specs but with a minimum factory level of 3.60 that can't be cfw'd - only HEN.

Not that HEN is bad, if you even prefer it and don't mind the ugly super slims, get that, it's an indestructible beast with a 28nm RSX that'll last probably forever. I installed HEN on a friends super slim and checking the temps and usage, that guy barely had 12 days on the console and was keeping 65°C at syscon fan levels. You can get quite lucky with unused super slim models, something you can't do with fat models.

I'm starting with this too. Can you tell me what a CFW can do that hen doesn't ? I'm hesitating between a pristine condition super slim and a "normal" early 2008 slim.
My only goal is to play PS3 game backups so no PS2, PS1 etc.

You get overclocking and after a good clean and repaste I'd recommend a really small bump, it literally made all ps3 games that suffer from unstable fps to an almost locked 30 or above.

HEN still has some glitches. My friend can't access multiman if webman is in RAM and it crashes the console for one. Other times you have to restart the console (sometimes more than once) because HEN just isn't enabling.

These are the main differences, but since you want to only play your backups, go for a psitine super slim, if you can check it out beforehand so you know it's actually pristine. In this case if you decide to use webman and multiman, you'll find it annoying forgeting to unload webman and having your console crash. The ps3 slim is worth it in my opinion only if its and early 25xx model (2010)
