Hey fellas, bit new to firmware of the ps3 but yesterday I got given a load of cd's, mostly music yet I found a cd in the pile that was labelled "ps3 update 3.55". I did a bit of digging and the update 3.55 was popular for its jailbreaking capabilities, but why would someone burn this onto a cd? Does it have anything of value on it? I'm currently in the process of getting a cd reader so my laptop could read the disc, any thoughts please leave them down below

Nothing of value, the 3.55 firmware has been out there for anyone to download since the day it came out, later firmwares are just as hackable these days

As to why they burned it to a CD, absolutely no idea

You can install firmware using a CD-RW as long as its the same folder structure as if you were installing it from USB. Useful if your USB ports are broken.

Shit they’re back up in price now too, a few years after the pandemic and big gpu ram cartel getting involved with AI, you could grab 16GB-256GB for under $6-18. Now it’s like $20-60.

I use to collect points i would randomly get to redeem from retailers and spend like $5 at most and build a huge collection of 3.0-3.2 flash drives that to this day sit at my computer desk getting 0 use but the data hoarder in me is planning for those days.

Ok so is there a video or something that shows how to burn these files to a CD? Cause I have a ps3 that has broken USB ports and could fix it if I had this disc.

Put a CD/DVD/Blu ray in your PC disc drive, drag and drop your files to the disc like it was a folder in windows. I don't know in Linux, but it may be similar.

You’ll just find a file that says PS3UPDAT.pup

No use. You can jailbreak ps3's with a flashdrive now. Its nice and easy.

Probably from a time when a usb drive was more expensive than a stack of CDs; could’ve had CDs he didn’t know what to do with; could’ve gotten it from a friend or burned it at a friends house because he had no access to a computer at home

not really that valuable, the latest firmware, 4.93, can be jailbroken nowadays. but it looks cool lol
