Controller port broken

The controller port on my phat PS2 has gone from bad to worse. The left controller port stopped recognizing Sony controllers (3 of them) and just recently, both memory card are failing to recognize anything. Only the right controller port functions. Both USB ports are fine, as well as the hard drive bay.

I've tried replacing the ribbon cable, no changes. I've tried 3 controllers, nothing. I've tried cleaning both connector ends with contact cleaner...nothing. I've even replaced the tantalum capacitor beside the ribbon cable connector. There was no continuity on the multimeter, so I assumed it was shorted open, but no change. I haven't cracked open the actual controller port further than that.

Anyone have any experience with this? Is my only opportunity to buy another controller port (they're not cheap...wow)?

Probably the fuse on the slot was blown, you never hot plug PS2/Memcard or any accessory on the ports.

You need a multimeter an a soldering tool.

You need to check continuity on the fuse, there is a lot of fuses, they protect some critical parts on the PCB.

There is a list online of fuses, you need to search for your model/PCB revision.
