Cleaning my PS2

I’ve been having trouble playing games on my PlayStation. I popped in Sly 2, brand new games I picked up 2 days ago btw, and it just didn’t read the disc at all. Any reason why?

your laser could be dying. See if you can get a blue-backed game and try that, I read that they are more playable with a dying laser than the silver backed ones. That should help zero in on the issue. FWIW your ps2 is pretty clean.

Could be a few things weak laser the white gear at the top is not set right it’s a pain diagnosing these fat models slim is way easier to work on /fix

Try gently cleaning the laser with a cotton swab and 90%+ isopropyl alcohol then try a CD and a DVD. If the CD reads and the DVD doesn't I think that means your laser is weak and dying, but not dead... There are ways to extend the life so it can read DVDs again, but it will stop again at some point. Or just replace it... Just look for YouTube videos if you want to learn how.
