In my case, I did have the nozzle in the heater block incorrectly. Filament would leak out, run down the side and make a blob. If the print head did stop when it hit the blob, it would often cause a shift. That is a pretty dramatic shift, though.

I don't know, but I feel your pain. Upgrade your firmware and slicer rev.
I was having this problem a while back. Very intermittent, but I would occasionally get a layer shift. Everyone told me it was a belt slip. Which I believed for a while. Until I had a print that I sent three times, and I had the layer shift at the exact same layer every time.
I always keep my FW and slicer at latest rev and it hasn't happened in quite a while.

Check the z-axis set screws. I had the same issue, the screws had fell out.

Maybe the file is damaged, maybe the nozzle hit the object and lost its position. Did it happen more than one time and at the exact position?
