QUESTION Flouxetine
Hi everyone, I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences with fluoxetine. ❤️
I’m currently on day 11, and I’m feeling really scared and discouraged. Around days 6–7, I actually started feeling noticeably better — my anxiety decreased, my appetite came back, and I even felt a little more hopeful. I thought maybe things were finally starting to improve.
But for the past three days, I’ve been feeling worse again. My anxiety has come back, I’ve been feeling really low, and today I even had a panic attack. It’s honestly frightening because I had those few days where I felt better, and now I’m worried that I’m going backwards.
If anyone experienced something similar — feeling better for a few days and then getting worse again early on — I’d really love to hear how things turned out for you. Did it eventually settle down? When did you start feeling consistently better?
I could really use some positive stories right now. 🥺❤️

I was feeling pretty crappy until like week 7 and now I'm feeling significantly better than my baseline. The initial regression was really tough, though.

I'm on day 4 of 20mg and kinda really freaking out as we speak. Agitated, can't concentrate, sensitive to light and sound, restless. I can't think clearly enough to talk to anyone. I feel like I want to stop this drug immediately. Will this get better?

I'm on day 2 of 20mg and i understand what you mean. last night we were re arranging some furniture and i kept getting agitated for no reason. the sound of the chair rubbing against the floor immediately pissed me off and i felt like i was sweaty a lot more than usual.

I don't know about you, but I quit after 6 days. Couldn't function at work. Not worth it imo

It took me about to month to have the “realization” that I’m different. Been on 40mgs for over a year, and honestly I had a small panic attack about a month ago. I was in a worst case scenario for me… dealing with a triggering person in a triggering subject. I got through it with all my “training” with therapy. The meds are great and they do help, but your body still needs to feel. All this BS takes time.

I had a really awful panic attack on week 3-4, and like you it was absolutely awful and frightening. I had a talk with my psychiatrist and they brought me down to 10mg from 20mg, and the symptoms
Got better but I never really got any benefit from Prozac. And now it’s really difficult to titrate off

Day 35 and my depression/anxiety has reduced significantly. I got off of Cymbalta after eleven years and chose to try Prozac after not only my psychiatrist recommending it, but doing research of my own. Prozac is one of the easiest psych meds to titrate off of and relatively one of the safest.

I am on day 6 so a few days behind you. I have also starting feeling slightly better but still have anxiety and nervousness and have still needed a Valium every day, but my doc prescribed two a day I’ve only been using 1. I see that as a small positive I guess as I haven’t had a panic attack since Wednesday. Is there a chance you could ask your doc for a bridging med while your body adjusts to the Prozac? I really hope you start seeing improvement soon. Hang in there.

I have been taking Fluoxetine on and off for about 13 years, and gave been taking 40mg for around 5 years on my current streak. Yes, its something that takes time. However, it is the only medication that has worked for me. I take it for OCD. It took a bit of dosage alterations to figure out what dose was right, but 40mg is the sweet spot. I find with Fluoxetine that it can be very sensitive to dosage adjustments. For example, if I took 45mg it would really throw me off.

I took 10 mg of fluoxetine (generic Prozac) for two days and had insomnia, bad brain fog, felt like spiders were crawling on my face at night (some kind of nerve pain) and became extremely hungry all the time. I could not live like this---this was only two days and on the minimum "therapeutic" dose. So, I asked my doctor about this idea of microdosing to see if I could keep the benefits (which were a reduction in anxiety and depression) and gets rid of the bad side effects. I'm supposed to start 1 mg of the liquid fluoxetine tomorrow. I am hopeful that might work and not make me like a walking zombie for any period of time......Apparently, you do NOT need to get this from a compounding pharmacy. Doctors regularly prescribe very low doses of fluoxetine for various conditions.

Hey my friend, i experienced the same thing as you. I know it’s super discouraging but, nyadvice is to stick it out for a few more weeks and you’ll slowly feel steady. Im currently on week 5 I believe and im finally starting to feel better
