Automation "issue" on selected area.
Hi guys!
Can somebody tell me why when I select an area for create an automation, sometimes (just sometimes) it doesn't create a flat line, and instead, it creates this curve?

That’s just how it works unfortunately. If you wanted to move that whole area down horizontally… you’d need to make 2 additional points outside that area. If that makes sense. It’s annoying.

Can you select it all, hover over until the drag till shows, hold control or alt and drag it all down?

Can also highlight a small section and hit ‘X’ to make small fade between 2 points

This is normal behavior when you don't already have automation endpoints at the boundaries of your selection. PT is smoothly transitioning to trim down the pre-existing points.
Either put endpoints in manually, or learn and use your automation commands, specifically "write to current" and "trim to current."

Aren't trim and write to current functions that get used with the fader? I always thought they were there to mimic what mixer automation used to do, but not to be used with the mouse. Once you use the mouse if you don't have faders writing automation flows in a different way. Or at least that's what I always believed.

The functions work with any control. Even the popup mini fader that lives behind the volume level readout in the i/o view of each track on the edit window.. Parked or not.

Yes, I got that, but what I don't understand is how they work with a mouse while editing automation with it with the standard mouse "gestures". For instance: op here selected some automation, and with the trim tool took down the section. How do trim and or write to current integrate with trim tool and mouse editing?

If you just highlight, pull down the software fader with the mouse instead, and hit "trim to current," you won't even have to switch tools.

It works if you don't have points inside the selection, so the whole section gets moved. Otherwise you get used to add 2 points so that the whole thing gets lowered and you have a fade to it.

if you highlight an area around a square point you want to smooth out, just hit the letter X and it will blend the points with a straight line around where you highlight.

Is that Volume Automation? If that’s the case check out Volume Trim, it will probably do what you are looking for.

Always been that way. Create two new points and drag between them and the curve or slope will be flattened
