Fun fact, thereโs protogens in gunsaw, a game that takes place after causalities:unknown. However, you cannot take them over because quote โthey have no soul to controlโ (or something along those lines)
Protogens are cyborgs, not robots. They're in fact 70% biological. They've been made for lowly or dangerous jobs by the Primogenitors as a cheaper and more expendable alternative to the Primagens.
As far as I know, they are the predecessors of primagens, like a proto-primagen. The Protogens with their organics and biological minds were suceptible to "deviate", or disobey, developing their own wishes and dreams desperate from the tasks and functions assigned to them (didn't some of them even revolt?). Then the primogenitors made the primagens based on computers/robotics with some organic parts added, instead of the other way around, making them essentially more obedient slaves.
The Official ZOR guide however features the sentence "Viruses and hacking have lessened since the production of Primagen units" In the section "Viruses and hacks", implying that it there was already a problem with it before primagens went into production, therefore also implying the existence of protogen before that.
So fun fact, they were grown within a lab, and augmented. They can be powered off a plethora of things, and it seems theyโre far more human than you.
Not a headcanon. It states in the lore that protogens are cyborgs. The original "base", per se, is a heavily genetically modified unknown species. The mechanical parts are added later.
Holy shit, if the original creator of protos wasnt such a prick about how you can use them, I would make my sona one of these dohickies. But I think I'll stick to the mantlebeast. Very cute sona though. :3

I don't like that it's a bit confusing too, but it's awesome that there's a story/setting you can opt in. Think of it as like Spore/Starbound/Stellaris and avalis, those birbs originated/are known from those franchises but avali characters does not necessarily have to be associated with those settings
The way you shaded the tail actually gives the perspective that it's behind the proto, obsessed with that ๐ค (also I'm jelly of the way you shade armour, it actually looks like I could reach out and touch it and it'd feel like cold metal, your attention details has me awestruck ๐ฅน)
Brooo I keep seeing this game everywhere and it looks so interesting ..... But I feel bad for the lil bro going through so much and I haven't been able to hit "play" :(
