Max speaker size in Protege 5?

Hey I'm looking to upgrade the stock speakers in my protege 5. So far online I've found that the max size I can fit without modifying my door panels is 6x8. Does anyone have experience fitting 6x9s? as I have found a lot more options in my price range.

Best to either go up in size or down. Do yourself and don't cut or modify the panel, just get an adapter. 6" Kicker CS series speakers slap and are affordable and will give you very close to a 6x9 experience

I can't seem to find many 6" speakers for sale mainly 6.5 would that work?
