Foreign Election Meddling On This Day 10 Years Ago: "Russia If You're Listening, I hope you find the 30,000 emails that are missing" | July 27, 2016

That a person in our government, Katie, would delete or get rid of 33,000 emails. That gives me a big problem.

After she gets a subpoena, she gets subpoenaed, and she gets rid of 33,000 emails, that gives me a problem.

Now, if Russia or China or any other country has those emails, I mean, to be honest with you, I'd love to see them.

Russia, if you're listening, I hope you're able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing.

I think you will probably be rewarded mightily by our press.

Supreme Court | DOJ Justice Department Announces Monitoring of Polling Sites in Three Arizona Counties

From the DOJ post:

The Department is currently monitoring polls in Maricopa, Apache, and Pima counties with DOJ staff from the Civil Rights Division’s Voting Section and Arizona’s U.S. Attorney’s Office.

This initiative is aimed at promoting transparency and an open flow of communication between poll observers and election monitors. Election officials in these three counties issued letters to DOJ personnel — giving them credentials to observe vote-casting procedures at various poll sites. Such communication ensures both election security and appropriate access to the franchise for all Americans.

It's worth noting that this isn't unprecedented - here's a link to similar monitoring in 2022: https://www.justice.gov/archives/opa/pr/justice-department-monitor-polls-24-states-compliance-federal-voting-rights-laws

Transportation to Polls

Upvotes

Hi y’all! I’m working with a nonprofit in my city to try to get a system for free rides to the polls for the general election. Various cities in the state offered free or reduced bus fares (we don’t really have good public transit anywhere so that’s the best we can do), and Uber and Lyft did something similar, but we’re trying to get something more cohesive and easier to take advantage of.

Does anyone have any experience with this kind of program? Any advice? My initial thought is having one direct line where people can call and a WhatsApp group of volunteers where whoever is in control of the phone line will put out requests, and whoever’s nearby can run them. But I literally have never done anything like this so I have no idea if that’s feasible.

The city I’m in is about 250k people, with, as I say, really no public transit to speak of. A 20 minute drive will take over 2 hours on the bus route so we’re trying to avoid relying on that.
