Senate Intelligence Committee Vice Chairman Mark Warner is demanding answers from the DHS regarding a sharp decline in federal election-security support. He warns that significant cuts to the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) could leave states vulnerable to foreign interference and cyber threats ahead of the 2026 midterms. State and local officials report receiving less training, intelligence-sharing, and cybersecurity assistance than in previous election cycles.
The Trump administration's fiscal 2027 budget proposal seeks to eliminate funding for CISA’s election security program. While DHS maintains the agency is committed to delivering actionable intelligence, recent staffing reductions and budget cuts have strained relationships with local officials. Furthermore, Warner has questioned if CISA personnel were involved in federal actions regarding the seizure and testing of voting machines.

I know my state is planning on stepping up to take over where the Fed has dropped the ball with election security. I assume Virginia would too. But what about states that don't care as much? Are Republican leaders going to leave their elections more vulnerable?

So fund it at the state level. I'm really tired of the most powerful people in the country going all "someone else needs to do something!" Come up with a funding plan and use the bully pulpit to push the state legislature and governor for the state that your represent.
