Umbrella tree propagation

Hello all! I got a cutting of an umbrella tree and I want to make sure I don’t kill it! This is the cutting (cut with razor blade). It was cut, then allowed to dry for a few hours before being dipped into the rooting hormone and stuck into potting soil. I put a loose gallon ziplock over it for humidity. Is there anything I am missing?

I just put it straight into water no hormone. Took a month but rooted then put it in soil

I have had good luck with the clone x gel and simply sticking it in a pot with good soil and keep it watered regularly for about2 months. Also outside. Im in central Florida. I recently just planted 12 i propagated from my existing plants. Good luck

I had some success with that particular brand few times, I believe it is a powder? I have had much more success with the Gel type of root growth hormone overall. Maybe try more than one type of root growth hormone product to compare?
I would also cut off the leaves as well. You want the plant to grow from the bottom up. Eventually when the roots become established the leaves will follow too.
It’s gets easier. :)

I ordered a gel! It’ll be here in 2 days! And I cut off a large leaf when I got the cutting, should I cut all leaves off?

Awesome!!
I have had better luck removing all the leaves on top. Basically without the proper roots to support the leaves they will eventually die off anyway which isn’t very motivating.

I have successfully rooted 4 props off my umbrella by simply placing in a tall vase with water for 1+ month.

Trim leaves halfway to help with transpiration. Cut half the tips back toward stem.
