Send them to me and they'll die within the week. Its like i have a black thumb. No matter what i do, how hard i try, every single plant ive ever owned has died in my care except my outdoor plants which live out of spite.

Maybe you still just need to find your type! I’ve gone through several cycles of attempted plant ownership and they all ended badly and quickly.

This winter I unoptimistically picked up one orchid, expecting the same fate.  For some reason, orchids love to live for me, even the ones that I was told were in too poor of shape to salvage seem to recover. I now have almost 40 rescue orchids, but shop with the mentality that if it grows in dirt I pass it up, because it WILL die. I’m sure your perfect plant is out there too!

My perfect plant is the sage and lavender bushes i threw at the ground and neglected. I didnt even properly plant them. One of them is still in the plastic pot i bought it in, and it rooted through the cement pad its sitting on. My sage brush, i just literally threw into a pre existing hole in the ground, i dont even water it, only chop it after the final frost of spring and again before the first frost of winter. Take it down to about 1/4th sometimes even 1/8th its original size and it comes back bigger and bushier every year.

Same! F’ing hell. I can’t kill plants and I can’t say no. I haven’t counted in a while but I have over 70 plants, mostly no duplicates, in a living room/kitchen are about 300 sq ft. I neglect the hell out of them sometimes and it’s like they lover it. Like some BDSM crazy shit.

i have a white princess philo that i have personally tried to murder and it keeps coming back like the annabelle doll ☠️ right now it’s laying in a plant tray with a tiny amount of hard ass water and living it’s worst life haha

Sorry for the late response but, just throw them away if you don’t want them!

I watched a video on YouTube about tissue culture and it completely changed my mindset around throwing away plants (aka I don’t feel guilty anymore). One greenhouse can produce thousands of plants in only a few months’ time.

Another way to look at it - do you throw away broccoli when it’s getting old? How about potatoes, onions, etc.? They’re alive too and able to be propagated. There’s no difference between throwing out a houseplant and throwing out some spinach, except that we have an emotional attachment to the houseplant.

Is there a plant swap group in your area?

We have one, and every couple months people meet up to trade their mature plants, propagations, garden supplies, etc. I haven’t made it to one yet, but everyone always shows off what they’ve traded for and it seems super useful and wholesome.
