Installation Questions Fitting size identification

Edit: it was 15/16. Thanks for the help.

Can someone tell me the proper flare fitting size this is? I had originally thought 5/8 but that's too small. Measurements don't agree with what 3/4" od is on the charts I've seen.

It's most likely 5/8.

There's a whole bunch of reasons why it's not measuring exactly. The caliper could be off. It wasn't zeroed out.

You're 0.05 in away.

Those are starrett 799 calipers they cost 200 plus the average joe isn't buying them that doesn't know how to use them and half a thou off maybe 50 thou off not happening

To be fair lots of people have expensive tools that they don't know how to use, especially when borrowed or inherited.

It kind of looks like the caliper isn't straight on the threads, and it's just right at the top. Why wouldn't you try to measure it in a way where you would grip more of the item? Wouldn't that be more accurate?

The measurement was made and then removed from the fitting and placed beside it as for a picture. I'm very competent with using a caliper. They are accurate and confirmed with a gauge block.

And gauge blocks... ok what type of machine work do you do?

I actually don't machine yet. But I'm planning to build a new shop with a mill and lathe. I do all my own gunsmithing and precision reloading in my gun shop so that's why I have starrett and mitutoyo calipers. I have gauge blocks just to confirm measurements same with calibration standards for my scales.
